PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Marshall baseball drops doubleheader against Willmar

WILLMAR — The Marshall baseball team fell to Willmar in a doubleheader on Monday, dropping game one 14-6 and game two 14-4 in five innings.
In game one, Josh Baker, Charlie Jacobson, Jack Bly and Tyler Maeyaert led Marshall with a hit and an RBI each while Chase Douglas, Cole Felcyn and Jacob Hughes each had a hit.
Baker took the loss on the mound, going 1 1/3 innings while allowing eight runs on four hits and struck out three.
In game two, Brock Schultz led Marshall with a hit and two RBI while Douglas had two hits, Baker had a hit and an RBI and Felcyn had a hit.
Maeyaert took the loss on the mound, going 1 2/3 innings while allowing nine runs on five hits and struck out three.
Marshall (11-5) will face Waconia at home on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

GRANITE FALLS — The Yellow Medicine East baseball team defeated Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove 8-1 on Monday.
Cole Fischer led YME with a hit and three RBI while Cody Dahlager added two hits and an RBI and Bryce Sneller had two hits and two RBI.
Caleb Jans earned the victory on the mound, going six innings while allowing one run on three hits and struck out four.
Luke Willhite led RRC/WWG with a hit and an RBI while Dominik Smith and Cory Anderson each had a hit.
Luke Willhite took the loss on the mound, going 2 1/3 innings while allowing seven runs on six hits and struck out two.
YME (12-5) will face Montevideo at home on Thursday at 4 p.m. while RRC/WWG (10-7) will face Wabasso on the road today at 4 p.m.

SLEEPY EYE — The Wabasso baseball team fell to Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 4-0 on Monday.
Colby Wall and Adryen Tietz led Wabasso with a hit each. Matt Evink took the loss on the mound, giving up three runs on one hit.
Wabasso (12-5) will face RRC/WWG at home today at 4 p.m.

Championships
MORTON — The Marshall boys and girls golf teams competed in the Big South Conference Championships on Monday at Dacotah Ridge Golf Club, with the boys team taking fourth place and the girls team placing sixth.
On the boys side, Marshall took fourth with a team score of 343. Blue Earth Area took first with a team score of 324, followed by Fairmont in second (327) and St. Peter in third (332). Marshall also won the BSC West Division championship.
Luke Ehlers led Marshall with a 79 and a second-place finish while Jayden Manthei shot an 84 to place 16th, with both players earning All-Conference. Evan Franson fired an 89 while Sam Schwarz had a 91 and Grant Horvath and Joey Fossum each had a 94 to round out their scores.
On the girls side, Marshall took sixth with a team score of 428. Fairmont took first with a team score of 373, followed by St. Peter in second (388), Redwood Valley in third (391), Luverne in fourth (420) and Jackson County Central in fifth (425).
Brooklyn Gossen led Marshall with a 101 and an 11th-place finish to earn All-Conference while Bella Philips and Grace Ehlers both had a 108, Taylor Miller had a 111, Mild Du had a 112 and Eryn Kraft had a 118 to round out their scores.
Marshall will compete next in the section tournament in Oakdale, with the girls team playing on Wednesday at 9 a.m. and the boys team playing on Thursday at 9 a.m.
GFW Invite
FAIRFAX — The Wabasso boys and girls golf teams competed in a triangular meet on Monday, with the boys team taking first place and the girls team taking second place.
On the boys side, Wabasso took first with a team score of 202, followed by Minnesota Valley Lutheran in second (218) and Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in third (220). Ashton Thein led Wabasso with a 47 while Jayden Goblish added a 51 and Jayden Carlson and Wyatt Soupir each had a 52. Spencer Rohlik had a 62 and Jamison Rohlik had a 77 to round out their scores.
On the girls side, Wabasso took second with a team score of 278. MVL took first with a score of 224 while GFW recorded an incomplete team score. Jocelyn Jenniges led Wabasso with a 62 while Jasmine Kuehn had a 63, Chloe Rohlik had a 74 and Bella Brand had a 78 to round out their scores.
Wabasso will compete next on Wednesday in Worthington at 9 a.m.
