SMSU TENNIS: Mustangs drop third straight on Saturday night

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Southwest Minnesota State women’s tennis team wrapped-up a three-day road trip on Saturday night with a 6-1 non-conference loss to Nebraska-Kearney at Huether Family Match Pointe.

SMSU is now 4-3 on the season, while UNK improves to 2-2. SMSU, which is 4-0 in conference play, resumes to NSIC play on March 20 versus Minnesota State in St. Peter.

On Saturday night, SMSU lost the doubles point as UNK won two of the three matches. The Mustangs’ Maegan Flight and Silvia Poulakidas earned a 6-4 victory at No. 2, but SMSU lost 6-1 at both No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, there were several close matches, but SMSU was able to secure just one victory. Poulakidas scored SMSU’s lone point with a hard-fought 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (10-3) victory at No. 6. Maja Louisa Harck battled at No. 5, but lost 5-7, 7-5, 0-1 (6-10). The Mustangs lost in straight sets in the other four singles matches.
