PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Marshall wrestling splits pair of duals in home triangular

MARSHALL — The Marshall wrestling team split a pair of duals in its home triangular on Thursday, falling to Fairmont/Martin County West 47-15 before defeating St. James Area 78-3.

Against Fairmont/MCW, the Red Bulls took a 16-0 lead before a point was taken away for unsportsmanlike conduct. Marshall would get on the board with a pin from Dylan Louwagie, his 100th career victory, but Fairmont/MCW then won the next six bouts to take a 41-6 lead. Spencer Wambeke then won by decision and Grant Louwagie won by pin for Marshall, but Fairmont/MCW got a pin to close out the 47-15 victory.

Against St. James Area, Marshall got out to a strong start, with Brayden Ust and Dylan Louwagie winning by forfeit while Brett Regnier and Christian Vlaminck won by pin to give Marshall a 24-3 lead. MHS then won the rest of the bouts either by pin or by forfeit. Tate Condezo, Josh Kraft, Lucas Stelter, Mitchell Bouwman and Keiton Walarius won by pin while Tucker Fiene, Kaiden Otto, Wambeke and Grant Louwagie won by forfeit for Marshall in the 78-3 victory.

Marshall will compete next on Tuesday on the road against BBE and United in Montevideo at 5 p.m.

Gymnastics

Luverne 131.375, Marshall 116.050

LUVERNE — The Marshall gymnastics team fell to Luverne in a dual 131.375-116.050 on Thursday.

Clara Bader led Marshall with an all-around score of 29.450, including a 7.325 in the floor exercise. Leah Matzner added scores of 8.600 on vault and 7.475 on the balance beam while Kaylee VanHauwaert had a 6.875 on the uneven bars and a 7.625 on beam (third-place finish). Fran Lubenow had an 8.400 on vault while Sydney Brandt had a 6.675 on bars and Jocelyn Schlenner had a 7.650 on floor to add to the Marshall effort.

Marshall will compete again next Friday at home against JCC at 6 p.m.

Girls basketball

Pipestone Area 52, Lakeview 48

PIPESTONE — The Lakeview girls basketball team fell to Pipestone Area 52-48 on Thursday.

Aubrey Kaczmarek led Lakeview with 16 points while Payton Timm had nine and Kiana Imes and Shelby Gravley each added eight. Gravley led in rebounds with eight while Kaczmarek led in assists with four.

Lakeview (8-5) will face TMB at home on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

Boys basketball

RRC 59, TMB 46

LAMBERTON — The Red Rock Central boys basketball team defeated Tracy-Milroy-Balaton 59-46 on Thursday.

Luke Willhite led RRC with 21 points while Dominik Smith and Joe Strock each added 11 and Justin Klabunde had nine. Klabunde led in rebounds with 11 while Willhite led in assists with five.

Jake Turner led TMB with 15 points while Trevor Smith added eight and Christian Wendland had seven. Turner led in rebounds with 10 while Wendland led in assists with six.

RRC (5-8) will face WWG at home on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. while TMB (8-5) will face YME at home on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
