Marshall girls take first, boys second at Redwood Valley Invite

REDWOOD FALLS — The Marshall boys and girls cross country team competed in the Redwood Valley Invite on Thursday, with the girls team taking first and the boys team taking second.

On the girls side, Marshall took first with a team score of 15, followed by Redwood Valley in second (47) and Worthington in third (78). Marshall took six of the top seven spots, including the first five. Leading the way was Bellamy Sukalski, who won the event with a first-place time of 19:32 while Taleigha Bigler took second with a time of 19:35 and Miracle Tucker took third with a time of 19:51. Allyson Sample took fourth with a time of 19:59 while Anna DeGroot took fifth with a time of 20:40 and Cameen McFarquhar took seventh with a time of 20:52. Gracelyn Foster took 10th with a time of 21:21 while Katherine Prahl took 13th with a time of 22:10 and Jersey Leysen took 16th with a time of 22:54 to round out their times.

On the boys side, Marshall took second with a team score of 40 points while Worthington took first (37) and Redwood Valley took third (45). Leading the way for Marshall was Zach Leibfried, who took second with a time of 16:30.2 while Owen Holmberg took fourth with a time of 16:56 and Josh Leibfried (17:24) and Sam Deutz (17:37) took eighth and ninth, respectively. Ashton Schnaser (18:16), Landon Wherry (18:32), Daniel Olin (18:48) and Ethan Bly (18:49) took the 17th-20th spots, respectively, to round out their times.

Marshall will compete next on Oct. 10 in the Big South Championships in Redwood Falls at 10 a.m.
