Area teams compete at Border West Invite

WHEATON — Multiple area cross country teams competed at the Border West Invite on Thursday. On the girls side, Canby/Minneota took first with a team score of 21, followed by Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd in second (41), Border West in third (66) and Lakeview in fourth (83).

Canby/Minneota took four of the top five spots, including the first three. Grace Drietz led the way with a first-place time of 18:30 while Braelyn Merritt took second with a time of 20:51 and Claire Stoks took third with a time of 20:52. McKenzie Ruether took fifth with a time of 21:33 while Natalie Stoks took 13th with a time of 24:29 and Rachel Wollum took 15th with a time of 25:14 to round out their times.

For LQPV/DB, Annika Fernholz led the way with a seventh-place time of 22:22 while Taylor Shelstad took eighth with a time of 22:34 and Mya Conroy (23:50), Alex Stitt (24:01) and Josie Shurb (24:22) took the 10th-12th spots. Rachael Lund took 18th (25:53) while Laney Bartunek took 23rd (26:21) to round out their times.

For Lakeview, Erin Meyer led the way with a 19th-place time of 25:55 while Faith and Savannah Louwagie tied for 21st with a time of 26:10. Lucee Olson took 29th (29:53) and Kaitlynn Bot took 30th (30:01) to round out their times.

On the boys side, LQPV/DB took first with a team score of 19, followed by Canby/Minneota in second (43) and Border West in third (58). Lakeview recorded an incomplete team score.

LQPV/DB took five of the top seven spots, including the first three. Zeke Sather led the way with a first-place time of 16:38 while Darius Fenske took second with a time of 17:24 and Kaden Allpress took third with a time of 17:43. Peyton Sterud took sixth with a time of 17:50 while Hunter Martinson took seventh with a time of 18:04 and Mason Brehmer (18:15), Caleb Johnson (18:33) and Evan Hegland (18:34) took the 9th-11th spots to round out their times.

For Canby/Minneota, Blake Stoks led the way with a fourth-place time of 17:44 while Kolton Duis took eighth with a time of 18:07 and Zach Ourada took 13th with a time of 18:50. Tristen Bierschenk took 14th with a time of 19:10 while Colton Ruether took 16th (19:35), Blake Giese took 17th (19:43), Isaac Bach took 19th (20:09) and Sam Skorczewski took 20th (20:13) to round out their times.

For Lakeview, Ethan Schwankl led the way with a 12th-place time of 18:36 while Cole Arends took 18th with a time of 20:06, Selby Anderson took 32nd with a time of 23:30 and Cole Remiger took 33rd with a time of 23:34 to round out their times.
