PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Tomahawk Conference announces its All-Conference team

MARSHALL — The Tomahawk Conference announced its All-Conference teams for girls basketball over the weekend, and a few area players made the list.

Leading the way for Wabasso was Sarah Franta. Joining her are Madison Mathiowetz and Sydney Windschitl (Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s), Sydney Hauger and Courtney Wendt (Springfield), Emma Nelson and Abbie Riederer (Minnesota Valley Lutheran), Sara Kottke (Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart), Brittany Dittbenner and Kadence Hesse (Sleepy Eye) and Brynn Busse (Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop).

On the Honorable Mention team, leading the way for Wabasso was Alison Fenger. Joining her are Allison Milbrandt and Maddy Wulkan (BLHS), Reagan Severson (Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s), Abby Nelson and Maddie Pearson (MVL) and Abby Heimkes (GFW).

Mathiowetz was named Player of the Year while Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s Bruce Woitas was named Coach of the Year.

All-Academic team

Several Wabasso players were also named to the All-Academic team, including Emma Salfer, McKenna Rohlik, Mataya Nelson, Halle Huhnerkoch, Madeline Hanna, Franta, Kelsey Fischer and Cora Eichten. Joining them are Kottke, Jessica Novotny, Tia Weispfennig, Wulkan, Allison Domseif and Emilie Hable (BLHS), Kaitlyn Lee, Ana Caldwell, Shelby Ramirez, Makayla Aylsworth, Rylee Sabo, Olivia Schwarzrock, McKenzie Lauwagie, Morgan Aylsworth and Hannah Panitzke (GFW), Sarah Mohr and Emily Schommer (New Ulm Cathedral), Windschitl, Sophie Portner, Megan Ahlness, Maryanne Larsen, Mathiowetz and Severson (Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s), Kate Lorang, Trista Smith, Madison Heiling, Isabella Harmoning, Grace Schouvieller, Megan Sandgren and Emma Sullivan (Cedar Mountain), Naomi Anderson, Mikayla Bendix, Cheyenne Blackwell, Lydia Hartwig, Kaylee Hunter, Mia Johnson, Nelson, Riederer, Ella Schlei and Abby Sorenson (MVL), Brooklyn Moldan and Kaydince Thoms (Sleepy Eye) and Hauger, Wendt, Meriah Kirschstein and Lilly McCone (Springfield).

Requirements of the All-Academic team included being a member of the varsity team, being a sophomore, junior or senior and holding a GPA of 3.75 or higher.
