PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: McFarquhars wrap up successful day at state

ST. PAUL — For the third consecutive season, Marshall sophomore Saphi McFarquhar capped off her gymnastics season representing the Tigers at the state meet. This season, she had some company at the meet held inside Roy Wilkins Auditorium.

Just like Saphi did in the same grade, eighth grader Cameen McFarquhar joined her older sister as a competitor in her first state meet over the weekend.

Saphi finished 20th in the all-around competition, led by her 16th-place score of 8.7125 on the uneven bars. She also was 25th on the balance beam (8.875), 39th in floor exercise (8.625) and 40th on vault (8.8875).

Cameen scored a 7.4 on her beam routine, good for 42nd place.

TRACY — The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton girls basketball team saw its season come to an end in a 59-47 loss to Jackson County Central on Saturday in the opening round of the Section 3AA Tournament.

Jadyn Lessman led the way for TMB with 15 points, nine rebounds and four assists.

Margaret Dolan added nine points for the Panthers, while Jordan Munson scored eight points.

TMB finished its season with a 15-11 record, as it was the final game of the prep basketball careers of seniors Catherine Wendland, Brooke Christian, Katelyn Danielson and Mariah Mayer.

WORTHINGTON — Red Rock Central began postseason play with a 69-53 win over Murray County Central in the opening round of the Section 3A Tournament on Saturday.

Karli Arkell led the way for RRC with 23 points and 11 rebounds.

Nicole Schroepfer added 19 points, six rebounds and five assists in the win, while Lily Stavnes finished with 17 points and four steals.

Brynn Graphenteen led MCC with 13 points, as the Rebels finish the season with a 7-16 record.

The fifth-seeded Falcons move on in South subsection action and will face top-seeded Hills-Beaver Creek tonight in Worthington, with opening tip set for 6 p.m.

WORTHINGTON — Southwest Minnesota Christian opened up the postseason with a 78-30 win over Westbrook-Walnut Grove on Saturday.

Alli VandeKieft led WWG with nine points.

Kelly Berglund added seven points in the loss, while Camryn Bunting and Kayla Freeburg scored five points apiece.

WWG finished its season with a 3-19 record, as it was the final game of the prep basketball careers of seven seniors.
