PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Marshall hangs on against Sioux Falls Roosevelt

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. –Noah Puetz came through in the clutch at the free-throw line to seal a 51-50 win for Marshall over Sioux Falls Roosevelt on Tuesday.

After the Rough Riders hit a 3-pointer with five seconds remaining to cut the margin to two points, Puetz calmly knocked down a pair of free throws to give Marshall a four-point cushion. Roosevelt hit another 3-pointer just before the buzzer, but the Tigers still came away with the win.

Puetz led Marshall with 19 points and seven rebounds.

No. 5 Marshall (23-1) will face Waseca on Friday in the Big South Conference Championship.

GRANITE FALLS — Yellow Medicine East defeated Canby 62-51 on Tuesday night to earn its first win of the season.

Carter Sneller led the way for YME with 25 points and 13 rebounds.

Kyle Chase added 20 points in the win, while Cody Dahlager recorded eight points and six rebounds.

Evan Weber scored 13 points to lead Canby.

YME will travel to Paynesville Area on Thursday while Canby begins preparations for section tournament play.

OKABENA — The Westbrook-Walnut Grove boys basketball team defeated Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda 79-77 in overtime on Tuesday.

Trailing 37-26 at halftime, WWG outscored HLO/Fulda 54-40 in the second half and overtime periods combined to earn the comeback win.

Ethan Mischke led the way for the Chargers with 34 points while Nathan Ross and Colton Pilaczynski each added 16. Ross and Pilaczynski led in rebounds with seven each while Ross led in assists with four.

WWG (16-8) will face Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey on Friday at 7:15 p.m.

Sam Helmer led RRC with 15 points and five assists.

Dominik Smith added nine points in the loss, while Mason Gode recorded seven points and three rebounds.

RRC (5-17) will travel to Hills-Beaver Creek on Thursday.

CLARA CITY — With 15 seconds remaining in regulation, Hannah Evans scored the go-ahead basket to lead Red Rock Central to a 46-46 win over MACCRAY on Tuesday. It was the first lead of the game for RRC.

Evans finished with six points in the win.

Karli Arkell led the Falcons with 17 points and seven rebounds. Lily Stavnes added seven points and five steals in the win.

RRC will open Section 3A Tournament play on Saturday afternoon against MCC in Worthington.
