SMSU TRACK AND FIELD: Manteuffel sets two records as SMSU opens season in Brookings
BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Southwest Minnesota State women’s and men’s track & field teams opened its indoor season on Friday and Saturday with two strong days at the South Dakota State Holiday Open held inside the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.
The Mustangs set a handful of team records during the meet, including one facility record.
SMSU’s Rebecca Manteuffel set a team record on Friday with a third place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 18.50m. The distance was the top among all non-Division I athletes at the meet. On Saturday, Manteuffel set an SMSU and facility record winning the discus with a toss of 50.40.
SMSU freshman Isatu Shirek also set a team record on Friday with a time of 9.24 in the 60 meter hurdles.
Kayla Jansky earned team points with a seventh place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:27.03 during Friday’s action.
On the men’s side on Friday, Kyle Felling placed eighth in the 400 meters crossing the line at 50.33.
Isiah Nelson recorded a fifth place finish in the triple jump at 12.89m.
Southwest Minnesota State will now be off for the holidays and return to competition on Jan. 17-18, 2020, at the Minnesota State Invite in Mankato.
