ST. PAUL – The Southwest Minnesota State men’s basketball team (3-6, 0-3 NSIC) fell 75-70 to a hot-shooting, Concordia-St. Paul (3-3, 1-1 NSIC) on Saturday night at the Gangelhoff Center.

The Golden Bears shot 50 percent from the field (26-of-52) and 50 percent from the three-point line (7-of-14) while the Mustangs shot 37 percent from the field (25-of-68) and 30 percent from the three-point line (9-of-30).

The Mustangs were led in scoring by Nick Dufault, who finished with night with a season-high 20 points. Kenny Byers added 17 points and a team-high 11 rebounds, while Cliff McCray added 11 points.

Dufault hit back-to-back three-pointers to start the game and aid the Mustangs to an early 11-2 lead. The Golden Bears fought back to tie the game up and take the lead late in the first half. The Golden Bears then created so much as an 11-point lead with under two minutes remaining.

CSP went into the second half with a ten-point lead at 43-33.

The Mustangs tied the game and took the lead at 66-65 with two free throws from McCray with two minutes remaining in the game. The Mustangs held on to a one-point lead before CSP’s Jordan Coblin went to the line to put the Golden Bears up four at 73-69 with 31 seconds left. The Mustangs couldn’t tie it up as the Golden Bears claimed a 75-70 victory.

CSP was led in scoring by Cody Carlson who finished the night with a game-high 27 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Southwest Minnesota State returns for a weekend homestead facing St. Cloud State on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Minnesota Duluth on Saturday at 6 p.m. in the R/A Facility.
