SMSU SOCCER: SMSU soccer picks up road victory over William Jewell

LIBERTY, Mo.- The Southwest Minnesota State women’s soccer team (2-0) continued nonconference play with a 1-0 shutout victory over William Jewell (0-2-1) at Greene Stadium in Liberty, Mo.

SMSU starts the season with a 2-0 record for the first time since the 2013 season when the Mustangs earned a back-to-back victories over Fort Hays State and Nebraska-Kearney.

The game played to a draw until SMSU’s Erin Fisher scored in the 86th minute with an assist from Allie Cook and Alex Lotts. This was Fisher’s second goal of the season and fourth in her career.

SMSU outshot William Jewell 14-9 with Alli Miskowiec recorded five shots, three of them on goal and Abbey Hoisington had four shots with two of them on goal.

Amanda Haimes played all 90-minutes between the posts to advance her record to 2-0 and record three saves.

Southwest Minnesta State returns home to host Augustana in the conference opener on Friday, Sept. 20, at 6 p.m. and Wayne State on Sunday, Sept. 22, at 1 p.m. at Mattke Field at the Schwan Regional Event Center.
