AREA BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Marshall Black goes 2-1 at Alexandria tournament

ALEXANDRIA – The Marshall Junior Legion baseball team wrapped up the Alexandria tournament with a 2-1 record, falling to Blaine 7-3 before earning victories over Detroit Lakes (7-2) and Alexandria (2-1) to close the weekend.

Sunday

Marshall 2, Alexandria 1

Against Alexandria, Josh Baker led the way for Marshall with a hit and an RBI while Chase Douglas and Jacob Hughes each added a hit.

Cole Felcyn earned the victory on the mound, going seven innings while allowing one run on six hits and striking out five.

Saturday

Detroit Lakes 2

Marshall Black began tournament play with a 7-3 loss to Blaine in five innings before bouncing back with a 7-2 victory over Detroit Lakes in five innings on Saturday.

Against Blaine, Charlie Jacobson led the way for Marshall with a 2 for 3 day with two RBI while Baker added a hit and an RBI and Douglas had a pair of hits.

Jacobson took the loss on the mound, going 1 2/3 innings while allowing five runs on four hits and striking out four.

Against Detroit Lakes, Jacobson led the way for Marshall with a 2 for 3 day at the plate with three RBI while Jack Bly added a hit and two RBI and Douglas had a pair of hits and an RBI.

Baker earned the victory on the mound, going five innings while allowing two runs on six hits and striking out five.

Marshall (14-5) will face Slayton today at 6 p.m.

Granite Falls 4

GRANITE FALLS – The Marshall amateur baseball team defeated Granite Falls 5-4 on Sunday.

Zach Olson led the way for the A’s with a 3 for 5 day at the plate, including a 3-run home run, while Ryan VanMoer and Dillon Loft each added a hit and an RBI.

Olson also earned the victory in relief on the mound, going 4 2/3 innings while allowing no runs on three hits and striking out seven.

Jordan Odegard and Bennett Knapper led the way for the Kilowatts with a hit and an RBI apiece while Cole Richter and Craig Listul each added a hit.

Christen Kanten took the loss on the mound, going seven innings while allowing five runs on nine hits and striking out five.

Marshall (12-2) will face Minneota on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. while Granite Falls will face Sacred Heart on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
