MARSHALL – The Marshall A’s posted crooked numbers in the third inning and eighth innings to beat the visiting Brookings (S.D.) Cubs by a final score of 8-6 on Wednesday. The victory moves the A’s to 9-2 on the year.

The Cubs struck first in the opening frame with an RBI base hit, but the A’s wasted little time answering with a six-run third inning to make it 6-1. The score would stand until the top of the sixth.

The runs were generated by a wild pitch to Connor Winkelman, followed by three-straight bases-loaded walks to Jordan Kontz, Zach Olson and Alex Thompson. Nick Macchio would conclude the scoring with a two-run single to make it 6-1 in favor of the A’s.

Getting the start for Marshall was Jordan Mernaugh, who bounced back after the one-run frame to keep the Cubs hitters off-balance in the second and third innings. Logan Terfehr took over and followed suit with a pair of clean innings of his own in the fourth and fifth frames.

In the top of the sixth, the Cubs knotted the game up at six apiece thanks to a two-RBI single, a double steal and a two-run home run. The A’s would elect to make a pitching change in the next inning with Zach Thompson taking over for Terfehr and remained on the mound all the way to the end of the game.

With the contest still tied at six heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, Zach Olson provided the clutch hit to push the A’s over the Cubs with a two-RBI double to make it 8-6.

The A’s are scheduled to return to Legion Field on Sunday when they host the Raymond Rockets at 5 p.m.
