PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Marshall uses five-run fifth to take out Fairmont

FAIRMONT — A five-run fifth inning broke the game wide open as Marshall defeated Fairmont 9-3 on Friday.

Cody Greve doubled an drove in run to lead the Tigers offense.

Kaleb Welvaert added two RBI in the win, while Jordan Mernaugh scored twice.

Jack Bly struck out three batters over six innings to earn the victory.

Marshall will play a pair of road games today, starting at Mankato East at 1:30 p.m. before a 6 p.m. first pitch at New Ulm.

GRANITE FALLS — Yellow Medicine East defeated MACCRAY 8-2 on Friday.

Ty Schulte went 2 for 4 to lead the Sting, including a three-run home run in the third inning. He finished with five RBI in the win.

Carter Sneller added a triple for YME, along with two RBI and two runs scored.

Angel Jimenez went the distance on the mound and struck out 10 batters.

YME travels to Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg on Tuesday.

GRANITE FALLS — Russell-Tyler-Ruthton went on the road to earn an 8-5 win over Yellow Medicine East on Friday.

Hunter Gravley led the Knights, going 3 for 5 with a pair of doubles and a pair of runs scored. Cody Wichman added two hits in the win.

Angel Jimenez went 2 for 3 with two RBI in the loss to lead YME.

RTR hosts Canby on Monday, while YME travels to Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg on Tuesday.

PRINSBURG — The Canby baseball team defeated Central Minnesota Christian School 13-1 on Friday.

Kalib Greenman led the way for Canby, going 3 for 4 with a double, three RBI and three runs scored. Riley Kockelman added three hits and two RBI in the win, while Tyler Sayre tripled, drove in a run and scored three times.

Canby travels to Russell-Tyler-Ruthton on Monday.

WABASSO — The Wabasso Rabbits earned a conference doubleheader sweep on Friday, defeating Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 11-5 in the opener before a 15-3 win in Game 2.

Megan Rothmeier was 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI in Game 1.

Allison Fenger added a double and a triple with three RBI. Halle Huhnerkoch was 2 for 2 with a double and two RBI.

Cora Eichten went 3 for 4 with two doubles to lead Wabasso in Game 2. Jenna Frank was 3 for 3 with a double and three RBI.

Sarah Franta recorded both wins in the circle.

Wabasso (8-7) hosts Murray County Central and Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian on Monday.
