PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Tigers can’t get past Mankato West

MANKATO – The Marshall baseball team fell to Mankato West 4-2 on Monday.

The Scarlets would jump out to an early lead in the first inning with two quick runs, but Marshall answered with a run of its own in the top of the third when Matt Hmielewski drew a walk before coming around to score on an RBI single from Cody Greve to make it 2-1.

Mankato West wasted little time in responding, though, adding two more runs in the bottom half of the frame to extend its lead to 4-1. The Tigers would get a run back in the top half of the fourth on an RBI groundout from Trey Steinbach to cut the deficit to just two, but Marshall couldn’t draw any closer.
