SMSU VOLLEYBALL: SMSU earns No. 7 spot in latest AVCA Top 25 Poll

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Southwest Minnesota State volleyball team advanced to the No. 7 spot in the latest American Volleyball Coaches’ Association (AVCA) Top 25 poll that was released on Monday. This is the 171st consecutive poll, dating back to Sept. 5, 2006, in which the Mustangs have been featured in the Top 25 poll and the second consecutive week in the Top 10. The Mustangs were previously ranked No. 9 in last week’s poll.

SMSU (21-7, 16-4 NSIC) extended its eight-match winning streak after going undefeated this weekend with a five-set victory over Upper Iowa (25-13, 25-16, 18-25, 19-25, 15-13) and a 3-1 win over Winona State (29-27, 23-25, 25-21, 25-18) to end the regular season.

The Mustangs were slated at seventh in the second of three NCAA region rankings released last Wednesday.

Minnesota Duluth earned the top-seed in the NSIC Tournament and leads off the NSIC competition at No. 4 in this weeks’ poll. Northern State follows closely at the No. 5 spot, followed by SMSU at No. 7 and Concordia-St. Paul at No. 8.
