AMATEUR BASEBALL: Marshall A’s, Granite Falls halted by rain
MARSHALL – The Marshall A’s amateur baseball team and Granite Falls Kilowatts squared off on Sunday evening, getting through nearly three innings of play before Mother Nature intervened with a storm, leaving the game suspended tied at 4-4.
Granite Falls got out to a quick start in the top of the first, as the Kilowatts got a pair of baserunners aboard before scoring on a wild pitch to take an early 1-0 lead.
Marshall responded, however, getting a leadoff single from Barry Meyer before advancing on a sacrifice bunt by Justin Greenwood. After Logan Tomasek was hit by a pitch, Dillon Loft was also hit by pitch to load the bases with one out. Justin Mettling then stepped up and smacked a single that plated two runs to give the A’s the lead back at 2-1.
The Kilowatts wasted little time in answering, though, scoring three runs in the top of the third to take the lead. After Austin Friese led off with a single, Zac Enevoldsen reached on bunt single before Jordan Odegard reached on an error to bring in a run. Cam Vien then gave Granite Falls the lead at 3-2 with a sacrifice fly before Craig Listul extended it to 4-2 on an RBI groundout.
Marshall got the bottom half of the third started when Mason Penske was hit by a pitch before Meyer connected on another single to put runners on the corners. Greenwood then cut it to a one-run deficit with an RBI single before Marshall tied things up at 4-4. The A’s had the bases loaded with one out, but the rain started to pour on Legion Field, causing a delay before the game would be suspended.
The two teams will resume play on July 15 in Granite Falls, with a regular season game being played after.
