SMSU SOFTBALL: SMSU games moved to Sunday and Monday at Mattke Field

MARSHALL – The Southwest Minnesota State University softball program has announced changes to this weekend’s schedule for games versus St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth set for Marshall.

SMSU will now play all four games at Mattke Field at the Schwan Regional Event Center. SMSU will face St. Cloud State on Sunday for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m., and then will take on Minnesota Duluth on Monday for a twinbill set to start at 12 p.m.

The games were originally schedule to be played Saturday and Sunday at Mustang Field on the SMSU campus, but field conditions forced the games to be played on the artificial surface of the Schwan Regional Event Center.

This will be the first games played at the Schwan Regional Event Center since SMSU split a doubleheader versus Concordia-St. Paul during the 2013 season. SMSU also played games at the stadium in 2009 and 2011 and holds an all-time record of 7-3 at the stadium.

SMSU (10-19 overall, 5-9 NSIC) has had its last six games canceled and has not played since April 11 at Augustana. The Mustangs begin the weekend tied for 10th place in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference standings.

SCSU is currently in sixth place in the NSIC and holds a 26-15 overall record, including 12-8 in NSIC play. SCSU is ranked No. 8 in the first NCAA Central Region rankings released on Wednesday. UMD is in second place in the league standings with a mark of 13-3 and holds a 31-8 overall record.
