MARSHALL — Despite winter weather dragging on into April, outdoor enthusiasts are invited to think spring — along with summer and fall — at the first-ever Marshall RV, Boat and Outdoor Show today through Sunday at the Red Baron Arena & Expo.

Visitors will find campers, pontoons, trailers, boat docks, recreational vehicles, ATVs, jet skis, golf carts, outdoor furniture and much more. The event begins at 10 a.m. today.

“The floor is completely sold out and we actually had to turn some people away,” said Darin Rahm, Marshall Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Director. “This is the kind of show that the Red Baron Arena & Expo was built for. There’s like six or seven pontoons and at least eight campers in here already, along with cool accessories that go with that, like outdoor furniture and grills. We wanted to give people the opportunity to see a wide variety of outdoor items.”

Event coordinator Ron Prorok said the Outdoor Show includes vendors who are local, but that there are also vendors from out of the area.

“It’s a good mix,” Prorok said. “There’s a combination of out-of-towners and in-towners. It’s just an opportunity for all of them to showcase their stuff. I think it’s exciting.”

Even with multiple campers, pontoons and other items taking up space inside the facility, there was still plenty of room to comfortably walk around. Final set-ups took place on Thursday afternoon.

“It’s all coming together,” Prorok said. “NB Golf Cars out of Hendricks should be pulling in next. The spa is already here. Mattress Barn will also be coming with their outdoor furniture and Wayne’s Tractors is also going to be here soon.”

Locally-known Action Sports will have different types of equipment displayed on-site, as will Shetek Marine. Along with campers, Prorok said other camping-focused items will be showcased.

“Midwest Outdoor Resorts — they sell timeshares and stuff at campgrounds — will be here,” he said. “Dave’s Custom Woodworking is going to be upfront. Cars Limited, they’re bringing some electric scooters. This is a big thing for zipping around at campgrounds.”

Rahm said the first-time show ended up becoming a regional event for people of all ages.

“There will be something there for everybody,” Rahm said. “And the show is free and open to the public. Along with all the displays, we’ll also have somebody from Lyon County there talking about aquatic invasive species. That’s a hot-button topic right now, so we’re trying to educate everyone. We reached out to them. With the pontoon boats here, it was easy to connect the dots for them.”

While forecasters have predicted heavy snowfall totals tonight through Saturday, event organizers are optimistic that people will be able to safety make their way to the RV, Boat and Outdoor Show.

“If the weather holds out and works for us, we’ll be in good shape,” Prorok said. “The snow is going to be questionable. But we had the Home Show here three weeks ago and there was a big snowstorm on Saturday and it was still a great show. A long as people can get out and about. And people want to get out and about. It’s April — it’s time to be outside and doing stuff.”

The show hours include: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
