PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Marshall boys hockey ties Minnesota River, 3-3

LESUEUR – The Marshall boys hockey team battled back from a 3-1 deficit to force overtime, before ultimately ending in a 3-3 tie with the Minnesota River Bulldogs Saturday afternoon.

After neither team found scoring in the first, the Bulldogs opened the second with a goal in the opening minutes to take a 1-0 lead. Marshall was then able to tie things up when Chase VanDeVere found the back of the net, but Minnesota River quickly added two goals to close the second and took a two-goal lead into the final frame.

Looking for a spark, the Tigers found one when Landon Frost fired one past the goaltender to cut it to 3-2. Then when with just 23 seconds left in the game, Mason Plante put one in for Marshall for the equalizer, forcing overtime in the process.

After Marshall’s furious comeback, the Tigers looked to get one more goal to go home with a key road victory. But neither team could find the back of the net, as the game concluded in a tie.

Minnesota River outshot Marshall 38-35 on the game. Dominik Caspers finished with 35 saves on the afternoon.

Marshall (17-5) will face Luverne Friday at 7 p.m.
