Manthei, Parsons, Ehlers sweep Windom meet

WINDOM — Jayden Manthei, Drew Parsons and Luke Ehlers swept the podium for the Marshall golf team at the third Big South tournament of the season in Windom on Monday. The Tigers put together a team score of 313 to beat out runner-up Luverne by 16 strokes.

Windom rounded out the team podium in third place at 348 while Redwood Valley, Worthington and Pipestone Area placed fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.

The Marshall Tiger seniors reigned atop the individual leaderboard in the tournament. Jayden Manthei finished first with an individual score of 3-over 75 to lead the pack. He birdied his first hole, hole 3, as well as holes 12 and 18 on the back nine. 

Fellow senior Drew Parsons scored a 4-over. Despite going 5-over on the front nine, Parsons locked in on the back 9 with four birdies to finish the day with a 76.

Right behind his two teammates, junior Luke Ehlers put together another quality round for the Tigers with a 5-over 77. He was even through the front 9 with a bogey on hole 1 and a birdie on 3 and put together four pars on the back 9.

Nate Panka, another Tiger senior, rounded out the team’s scorers with an 85, tying Redwood Valley’s Zachary Wilson for 11th. He also had a birdie on hole 12.

Marshall will next compete today when they head to Rose Lake Golf Club for the Cardinal Invitational at 1 p.m.

Big South girls event

PIPESTONE — Rylee Jacobson put together a top-3 round for the Marshall girls golf team at the third Big South event of the season in Pipestone on Monday. The senior’s performance led Marshall to a runner-up finish in the six-team field.

As a team, Marshall compiled a score of 404, trailing only Redwood Valley’s 383 and edging out third-place Worthington by just one stroke. Luverne took fourth at 426 while Pipestone and Windom did not field team scores.

Individually, Jacobson carded a 95 to tie Windom’s Ada Lund and Redwood Valley’s Taylor Klabunde for third. Jacobson put together pars on holes 7 and 9.

Redwood Valley’s Mila Jenniges was the individual champion with a score of 77, running well ahead of runner-up Madison Beckmann of Worthington’s score of 93.

Dayton Webskowski and Maddi Panka placed eighth and ninth for Marshall. Webskowski’s score of 101 tied her with Worthington’s Claire Mahlberg.

Grace Rokeh rounded out the Tiger scorers with a 106 to place 13th.

Marshall will compete again today at 1 p.m. when they head to Interlaken Golf Club for the Girls Cardinal Invite.

Camden boys meet

CANBY — Carson Boe and Lane Arends took two of the top three spots at the Camden Conference South boys golf meet on Monday. The Dynamic duo led the Lakeview Lakers to victory in the six-team event.

Lakeview compiled a team score of 179, beating out runner-up Canby by seven strokes. Minneota and Yellow Medicine East took third and fourth at 192 and 212 respectively while Tracy-Milroy-Balaton placed fifth at 287.

Renville County West did not field a team score.

Boe’s score of 3-over 39 tied him with RCW’s Ryan Schrupp for first. Lane Arends was right behind the two with a 41 to place third. Boe and Arends each finished the day with five pars. Boe never went more than one stroke over par on a single hole while Arends did just once.

Landon Teske and Kyle Kurowski rounded out the Lakeview scorers in 12th and 15th place respectively at 49 and 50 strokes.

Canby junior Jack Abrahamson and Minneota seventh grader Blayze Hulzebos tied for fourth place at 43 strokes. Brady Hulzebos was the Lancers’ second scorer, tying YME’s Jack Mensink for 10th place at 48. Isaac Bollerud was the team’s No. 3 at 46 strokes, tying Minneota’s Keaton Jurrens for eighth, while Daven VanEngen and Dylan Houseman tied for 12th at 49 strokes to place fourth and fifth for Canby.

YME’s Cooper McCosh and TMB’s Alex Munson tied for sixth at 45 strokes each.

TMB will host the next Camden meet on Thursday at Tracy Country Club at 4:30 p.m.

Camden girls meet

CANBY — Jersey Stensrud, Cydney Manning and Lauren Boe each put together top-5 performances for the Lakeview golf team on Monday at the Camden girls meet, leading the Lakers to a win in the six-team meet.

Lakeview tallied a 232 team score while Canby clocked in at 248 to place second. Tracy-Milroy-Balaton, Minneota, Renville County West and Yellow Medicine East each competed but none fielded a team score.

Stensrud led the Lakers with a score of 54 to place third in the meet while Manning and Boe tied for fourth at 57 strokes. Allison Isaacs capped off the Lakeview scorers in eighth place at 64.

Canby eighth grader Maddison Richter was the individual champion with a score of 49 while Tracy-Milroy-Balaton freshman Taylor Munson took second at 50 strokes.

Minneota was led by Ava Panka, who placed sixth at 58 strokes, while Narria Leenerts led YME with a 64 to tie Isaacs for eighth.

Haley Noyes placed 10th for Canby with 65 strokes while Emma Jerzak and Karli Webber rounded out the team scores with a 67 each, tying Lakeview’s Caitlynn Hedman for 11th.

TMB will host the next Camden meet on Thursday at Tracy Country Club at 4:30 p.m.
