Crowley, Draper file for re-election to Lyon Co. Board

MARSHALL — Two current Lyon County Commissioners have announced they will be running for re-election. On Tuesday, Commissioner Todd Draper, who represents Lyon County District 2, and Commissioner Gary Crowley, who represents District 4, both said they intend to run for re-election.

The candidate filing period for county offices in Minnesota hasn’t officially opened yet. The filing period will be from May 21 to June 4, according to the Minnesota Secretary of State’s Office.

Three out of Lyon County’s five commissioner seats have terms that end in 2024. Up for re-election this year are District 2, which includes Ward 2 of the city of Marshall; District 4, which includes the cities of Ghent, Minneota, Taunton and Cottonwood as well as townships in the northern part of the county; and District 5, which includes the cities of Russell, Florence, Balaton, Garvin and Tracy as well as townships in the southern part of the county.

Draper was first elected to the county board in 2022. While commissioner, he has served on boards and committees including the Rural Energy Task Force, Western Mental Health Center, United Community Action Partnership and Southwest Health and Human Services. Todd and his wife Rose are Marshall residents.

Crowley was first elected to the county board in 2016. He is currently chairman of the county board. As a commissioner, Crowley has served on committees and boards including Area II, the University of Minnesota Extension, the Marshall-Lyon County Library Board, SWCD, Minnesota Rural Counties, and Southwest Health and Human Services. Gary and his wife Nancy are residents of Lyon County, and farm south of Ghent in Grandview Township.
