Work on 2nd Marshall Kwik Trip planned this summer

MARSHALL — Construction of a second Kwik Trip location at the corner of Highway 68 and Highway 59 in Marshall is slated to start up this summer, members of the Marshall City Council learned this week.

Councils got a short update on the plans from a Kwik Trip representative at Tuesday’s council meeting. Council members also voted to approve a plat for the property.

Dean George, real estate development manager for Kwik Trip, was present at the council meeting. He said construction on the new store location was planned to start in early to mid-June. Construction was planned to take about three and a half months, he said.

The former Cattoors convenience store at the corner of Minnesota Highway 68 (West Main Street) and U.S. Highway 59 in Marshall closed its doors last year, after the property was sold to Kwik Trip. Since then, the company has been going through the process of re-platting the land, said Marshall Public Works Director Jason Anderson.

“Kwik Trip has purchased and combined several parcels at the corner of Highway 68 and 59,” Anderson said. Kwik Trip plans to build a new convenience store and gas station on the combined property.

Anderson said Marshall city staff had no issues with the plat brought before the council on Tuesday. They recommended the council approve a preliminary and final plat.

“We appreciate the investment that Kwik Trip is making in the community, and bringing in a significant presence. We hope it’s been so far, very successful. It looks like it has,” said council member Craig Schafer.

Kwik Trip opened its first gas station and convenience store in Marshall in January, at the corner of East College Drive and Bruce Street.

In separate votes Tuesday, council members approved a preliminary plat and a final plat for the new Kwik Trip location at Highway 68 and Highway 59.
