COTTONWOOD — Despite a second-half surge by the home team, Russell-Tyler-Ruthton outlasted Lakeview 71-69 on Tuesday.

Westin Kirk led RTR with 27 points and nine rebounds.

Cooper Hansen added 15 points in the win, while Garrett Kern recorded 13 points in the win.

Tate Varpness led Lakeview with 23 points and six rebounds, while Tyler Imes added 14 points.

RTR (3-0, 2-0 Camden) travels to Yellow Medicine East on Thursday, while Lakeview (1-2, 1-1 Camden) hosts Tracy-Milroy-Balaton on Friday.

Jordynn Hilgemann led Marshall with 28 points, while also chipping in with seven rebounds and three steals.

Hannah Meier added 13 points in the win.

Marshall coach Dan Westby said he was pleased with his team’s ability to start strong and maintain a solid lead.

“We came out strong, which usually is a concern for us,” Westby said. “We were able to maintain a 15-point cushion throughout most of the first half and into the second half. JCC is a much improved team and fought hard. We’re fortunate to get another road victory.”
