Adult Community Center plans summer kickoff

MARSHALL — The Marshall Adult Community Center is planning to host an event for senior citizens to kick off the summer. A request to close part of the parking lot outside the ACC on May 19 was approved by the Marshall City Council on Tuesday. Coordinator Katie Brusven said the summer kickoff is something that the ACC has done a couple of times in the past. “The goal is, how do we get seniors out of isolation and loneliness?” Brusven said. Marshall Council approves bond sale

MARSHALL — This week, Marshall City Council members approved the sale of a total $6.62 million in general obligation bonds, to finance projects ranging from street reconstruction to park improvements. In a presentation at Tuesday’s city council meeting, Mikaela Huot of municipal advisors Baker Tilly said the city received a total of six bids for the bonds. “So it was a pretty competitive market,” Huot said. Five dead in crash on U.S. 71

WINDOM — Five people were killed and eight injured in a head-on crash Friday in Cottonwood County, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. The crash involved a 2016 GMC Terrain and a 2019 Ford Transit Van carrying 12 passengers. The crash was reported at 4:42 p.m. near the intersection of U.S. Highway 71 and 240th Street, between Sanborn and Windom. Saturday’s high temperature breaks 80-year record

MARSHALL — Southwest Minnesota residents experienced record-breaking temperatures this past weekend. A high temperature of 80 degrees was reported in Marshall Saturday afternoon, said National Weather Service meteorologist Jeff Chapman. The Marshall temperature broke a previous record that stood for more than 80 years. Daily temperature data for the city of Marshall is reported in the mornings, so the 24-hour period the data covers doesn’t match up exactly with calendar days, Chapman said.
