MARSHALL — It was a good day to go out on the town in Marshall.

On Thursday, a crowd of people were browsing sidewalk sales and vendor booths set up on Main Street as part of Marshall’s annual Crazy Days event.

“It’s fun to see all the businesses out here, and support local business,” said Bree Smith, who was checking out Crazy Days with her family.

“There are some really fun things,” said Krista Wisdom. Wisdom said she had come to watch her kids march in the Kiddie Parade on Thursday morning, but she was also checking out the different food trucks and other vendors downtown.

Visitors at Crazy Days weren’t only shopping. There were plenty of games and events downtown for both kids and adults. The “Tunes On the Terrace” music series had its second performance Thursday evening, and returning events like the Kiddie Parade and the candy drop were also held during the day.

The candy drop drew a crowd of kids, clustered tightly around the front of a fire truck parked near the corner of Main and Fourth Street. Many kids carried plastic bags or pails, as they waited for members of the Marshall Fire Department to toss sweets from the ladder truck’s bucket.

The crowd got a little restless as the minutes ticked down to the start of the drop.

“C’mon, throw just one!” begged one of the kids.

Both Crazy Days shoppers and area businesspeople said it was a good day for the event.

“It has been pretty good,” said Terry Haas of Bot Appliance and Electronics. Haas said the way this year’s event was set up, with food vendors spread out at different ends of downtown, seemed to encourage people to walk around more. “I like that people can go up and down Main Street.”

Crazy Days brought community members out to Main Street, Haas said.

“It’s fun, because you see people who come back every year,” he said.

Starting at $3.95/week.
