A tuneful welcome at volleyball camp

MARSHALL — A trio of Southwest Minnesota State University volleyball players made their own music as they helped direct traffic during check-in for youth volleyball camp at the university.

On Thursday afternoon, Lindsay Kruse played guitar as she, Tatem Schmidt and Maddy Range waited for campers to arrive near the corner of Mustang Trail and Birch Street.

Kruse said she had her guitar in the trunk of the car along with the group’s lawn chairs, and decided to bring it out.

“I’ve been playing about three years, on and off,” she said.

Range, Schmidt and Kruse said things have been busy so far at SMSU’s volleyball camps. This month, the university is hosting several different camp sessions, focusing on different experience levels and age groups. Thursday was the start of an advanced skills camp for students entering grades 8-12 this fall.

Starting at $3.95/week.
