Bruce St. work ‘coming along’

MARSHALL — Construction work at the intersection of Bruce Street and East College Drive in Marshall has made a lot of progress, contractors said this week.

“Bruce Street is really coming along,” said Erika Coudron, of R and G Construction. Installation of underground sewer and water mains is complete, and concrete paving at the intersection is well underway, Coudron said. Depending on the weather, contractors hope to finish paving at the intersection next week.

In a Thursday construction update, Coudron said concrete work is also going on for a new pedestrian beacon and island on East College Drive near Anytime Fitness. The pedestrian crossing and beacon are part of some changes that are planned for College Drive in the downtown area.

As part of the reconstruction of Highway 19 (College Drive) downtown, the traffic lights at the intersection of College and Lyon Street will be removed and replaced with a two-way stop on Lyon Street, representatives of R and G said Thursday. The reconstruction work is also adding the pedestrian crossing near Anytime Fitness and turn restrictions at College Drive and Marshall Street. The Marshall Street intersection will become right-in, right-out, similar to the intersection of College Drive and Marvin Schwan Memorial Drive.

Coudron said electrical work is also progressing on installing city streetlights in the downtown area of College Drive. The lights were tentatively planned to be operational by the end of the day Thursday.

R and G representatives said water main and sanitary sewer lines have been installed in the work zone between High Street and Hill Street, and storm sewer work is underway.

Construction work planned for next week includes pouring concrete bases for traffic lights at the intersection of College Drive and Bruce Street, as well as electrical work for the traffic signal system.

The next segment of College Drive construction work, between Hill Street and Bruce Street, is also tentatively scheduled to start next week. Coudron said contractors have been in contact with Dollar General, Hoffman & Brobst and Kwik Trip about maintaining access to their businesses during construction.

Starting at $3.95/week.
