Third Street closure now set for Monday

MARSHALL — Construction work planned in Marshall’s downtown will now start Monday, the Marshall Public Works Department said.

North Third Street will be closed between Main Street and West Redwood Street.

Removal of the street pavement on North Third Street will be the first step of utility and road reconstruction on parts of Third Street and West Lyon Street. The first phase of construction may last into July, Public Works said.

During this phase of construction, West Lyon Street will still be open, but the intersection of Lyon and Third Street will be closed. The city will keep pedestrian access to businesses on North Third Street open for as long as possible while construction is going on. Parking will remain available on city-owned parking lots and on West Lyon Street.

Access to the blue Post Office drop boxes behind the Marshall Post Office will stay open during construction. To access the drop boxes, customers must enter the alley from North Fourth Street. After using the boxes, they can proceed down the alley and exit onto East College Drive.

Construction updates will be posted on the city of Marshall’s website. Members of the public can call the Public Works office at 507-537-6773 with questions.

Work on Third Street was originally planned to start this week, but was postponed due to rainy weather conditions.

Starting at $3.95/week.
