Hy-Vee to match Salvation Army kettle donations

MARSHALL — Today will be a good day to put some money in the red kettle at the Marshall Hy-vee, say supporters of the Lyon County chapter of the Salvation Army. On Nov. 28, Hy-Vee will match the funds donated to the kettle campaign at its location, said Deloris Richards.

“Everything we make, up to $1,000, they will match,” Richards said.

In addition to the match from Hy-Vee, some special appearances are planned for this afternoon at the Hy-Vee kettle location, Richards said. From 1-5 p.m., Santa and the Grinch will be ringing bells.

Richards said 88% of the money raised by the Lyon County kettle campaign stays in the county, to help offer emergency assistance for area residents through United Community Action Partnership. The support of the community will be especially important this year, as the COVID-19 pandemic creates more of a need for assistance, she said.

Concerns about COVID-19 have changed the kettle campaign this year.

“We don’t have a lot of bell ringers,” Richards said. However, kettles are still set up at several area businesses. “People have been supportive.”
