Sarah Ariet Cham named Newman Civic Fellow

Sarah Ariet Cham has been named a Campus Compact Newman Civic Fellow for 2022-23. Cham is an SMSU junior majoring in Education, with an emphasis in Youth-at-Risk. She is a first-generation college student and an Anyuak from South Sudan. She recently earned her U.S. citizenship. Four students awarded full-ride scholarships to SMSU

Four high-achieving high school seniors have been awarded full-ride scholarships to Southwest Minnesota State University as part of the President’s Regional Scholars Award program. Olivia Blaskey from Jackson County Central High School, Halle Egge from Willmar High School, Jordan Hausmann from Hancock High School, and Aaron Rojas from Adrian High School will receive full-ride scholarships starting in fall semester 2022. Fine Arts Celebration runs March 22-May 3 at SMSU

The Southwest Minnesota State Fine Arts Celebration returns to an in-person format in 2022, and will run from March 22 through May 3. “Two years ago we had to cancel the event due to COVID-19, and last year the events that were held were done virtually,” said Dr. John Ginocchio, director of bands at SMSU and the event coordinator. “Something for Everyone” could describe this year’s celebration, which includes exhibits, vocal and instrumental concerts, performances by the Southwest Minnesota Orchestra, costume-making, plays, readings, student recitals/performances, and ...

GOLD College kick-off event March 10 at SMSU

GOLD College at Southwest Minnesota State University will have its spring kick-off at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 10, in Charter Hall 201 on campus. SMSU President Kumara Jayasuriya will give the keynote address for the event. GOLD College offers non-credit courses and lifelong learning opportunities for adults of any age. It is open to all adults, with any level of education. Courses last two hours, and are held one day per week over a six-week term. Turbes of Wood Lake graduates from Bradley University Wood Lake native Sandra Turbes graduated with a MSN in MSN Family Nurse Practitioner from Bradley University in the fall 2021 semester. Turbes was among 300 students who earned degrees. Vorbach named to dean’s list at St. Olaf Zoe Vorbach of Marshall has been named to the St. Olaf College dean’s list for the fall 2021 semester. The dean’s list recognizes students with a semester grade-point average of 3.75 or higher on a 4-point scale.
