VFW Auxiliary scholarships contests

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 742 announces its fall scholarship contests. Patriot’s Pen contest is for students in grades 6-8 expressing their views on this year’s theme, “My Pledge to Our Veterans.” The Voice of Democracy contest is for grades 9-12 students who record their reading of their essay to a flash drive/USB or electronically submitted, via an audio file attached to an email. SMSU Theater season opens with two shows

SMSU Theater’s 55th season opens with not one, but two shows: “The Taming” by Lauren Gunderson, and “The Taming of the Shrew” by William Shakespeare. The two shows will alternate performances. “The Taming” runs Oct. 20, 28, and 29 at 7:30 p.m., and Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. The Taming of the Shrew runs Oct. 21 and 22 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 29 and 30 at 2 p.m. All performances are in the SMSU Fine Arts Theatre, with free parking available in lot B-1. SMSU hosts ‘Stand With Ukraine’ art exhibition SMSU is hosting an art exhibition entitled “Stand With Ukraine.” The exhibition is on display in the William Whipple Gallery at SMSU through Sept. 26. The exhibition includes posters created by designers from around the world. The posters reflect the artists’ views on the war in Ukraine. The collection was curated by Olga Severina, a graphic designer and exhibition curator in Los Angeles. SMSU Homecoming Weekend set for Sept. 30-Oct. 1

The 2022 Southwest Minnesota State University Homecoming weekend is set for Friday, Sept. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 1. A variety of events will be held on campus during the week leading up to Homecoming. On Wednesday, Sept. 28, SMSU will hold the 2nd annual Mustangs Give: Day of Service sending students, faculty, and staff around the community to engage in a number of service projects. Runck earns University of Nebraska-Lincoln degree Melissa Runck of Avoca was among 626 graduates who received degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln during a combined graduate and undergraduate commencement ceremony Aug. 13 at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Runck earned a master of applied science from the Office of Graduate Studies.
