SMSU Center for International Education to host International Education Week

SMSU Center for International Education (CIE) will host the annual International Education Week from Monday, Nov. 13 through Friday, Nov. 17. The week includes events to celebrate the international students at SMSU and to invite the community to learn about their countries and cultures. Gezahegn named to the dean’s list at Georgia State University Rebecca Gezahegn of Marshall was named to the summer 2023 dean’s list at Georgia State University. To be eligible for the dean’s list during the summer semester, degree-seeking students with a minimum Georgia State cumulative GPA of 2.00 must earn a 3.50 GPA for the semester and complete at least 6 semester hours of academic credit with no incompletes.

SMSU to welcome Visiting Writer and Speaker: Jimmy Santiago Baca Sept. 19-20

The SMSU Creative Writing Program and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion will host Jimmy Santiago Baca on Sept. 19-20. He will be on campus visiting classes and giving a public reading on Wednesday, Sept. 20 in CH 201 at 7 p.m. Santiago Baca is an award-winning American poet, memoirist, and screenwriter. Born in Santa Fe, New Mexico of Chicano and Apache descent, he was left in the care of a grandparent when he was two. Roles named to dean’s list at SNHU Margaret Roles of Marshall has been named to Southern New Hampshire University’s summer 2023 dean’s list. The summer terms run from May to August. Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.500 to 3.699 for the reporting term are named to the dean’s list. Full-time status is achieved by earning 12 credits over each 16-week term or paired 8-week terms grouped in fall, winter/spring, and summer. ‘Playing Haydn for the Angel of Death’ performance Sept. 8

A special performance of “Playing Haydn for the Angel of Death” will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Minneota. The musical composition features the poetry of the late SMSU English Professor Bill Holm, a beloved faculty member who passed away unexpectedly in 2009. Holm was the embodiment of the spirit of Minnesota.
