LaVoy senior recital to be April 21 at Lakeview

Carolyn Laufenburger, Redwood Falls, will present her vocal and piano student, Grace LaVoy, in a senior recital at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 21, at the Lakeview School Auditorium in Cottonwood.

The performance culminates a nearly a quarter century of LaVoys taking lessons from Laufenburger, with Grace being number five, and final of the Glen and Kathy LaVoy family. Kathy was also a piano and organ student of Laufenburger.

The program will consist of piano solos, duets, vocal solos and a duet with a fellow student Gideon Basel. Grace’s high school choir director, Krishana Dempcy, will accompany Grace on her solo pieces from school competition, all of which garnered superior scores.

Grace has studied piano with Laufenburger for 10 years, four years of vocal lessons and a year of organ lessons. Throughout that time she has competed in Minnesota Music Teachers Association piano contests going to state nine years and won and performed in the state Honors Concert in Minneapolis three times. She has also participated in the National Federation of Music Club’s Festivals and scored nine consecutive superiors in piano and three years of consecutive superiors in voice.

Her high school career has also seen stellar action in music as a member of band and choir with superior scores in solo and ensemble competitions. Other activities include, accompanist , dance team, church musician, National Honor Society, Honor student and any other event she is asked to do.
