YME cruises to home victory over Ortonville, 61-36

YME 61, Ortonville 36

GRANITE FALLS– The Yellow Medicine East Sting girls’ basketball team defeated the Ortonville Trojans 61-36 on Friday evening.

The Sting came out on fire with a 39-point first half and led by 21 over the Trojans, 39-18.

Hannah Stark had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. This is coming off of last night where she scored her 1000th point. Stella Schuler had 10 points and three rebounds. Bayli Sneller finished with 14 points and hit four 3-pointers.

The Yellow Medicine East Sting (8-10) will be back in action when they travel to Cottonwood to face off against the Lakeview Lakers on Monday evening at 7:15 p.m.

TMB 61, Dawson-Boyd 41

DAWSON –Kyli Carter posted an efficient 12 points to help the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton girls basketball team to a 61-41 road win over Dawson-Boyd Friday night.

Carter shot 4-8 from the field on the night, making her one of two Panthers with multiple field goals made and a field goal percentage of 50% or better. Hailey Gernentz scored 7 points on 60% shooting.

Jordan Munson led TMB in scoring with 14 points on 6-14 shooting. She also grabbed eight rebounds and three steals.

Kate Dahl scored a team-high 12 points for Dawson-Boyd on 4-14 shooting. As a team, DB shot 30% from the field.

Alyssa Swedzinski was DB’s second-leading scorer with 9 points and grabbed a team-high six boards.

The game marks Dawson-Boyd’s fourth straight loss and TMB’s fourth straight win. The Panthers now stand a half-game ahead of Russell-Tyler-Ruthton for second place in the Camden Conference-South standings, with Minneota leading the way.

Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (12-7) will head to Tyler to face off against Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Monday at 7:30 for the second of six consecutive home games for the Panthers.

Dawson-Boyd (6-13) will host MACCRAY on Monday at 7:30 p.m. for the third of five consecutive home games for the Blackjacks.

Wabasso 54, CM 21

WABASSO — Kelsey Frank went off for 21 points on Friday night, outscoring Ceder Mountain’s full team by herself and leading the Wabasso girls basketball team to a 54-21 win.

Frank shot 9-18 from the field and knocked down a pair of 3-pointers.

Sophia Hanna also made major contributions for Wabasso, scoring 18 points on 7-14 shooting.

Avery Carlson was the Rabbits’ main distributor on the night, dishing out seven dimes. She also tied Anistatia Smith for a team-high in rebounds, with seven.

Wabasso (7-12) will go on the road to face off against New Ulm Cathedral today at 1 p.m.

Boys Basketball

RTR 76, Canby 61

CANBY — Camden Hansen and Drew Werkman scored 16 points apiece to lead the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton boys basketball team to its 16th straight win to start the season on Friday night against Canby, 76-61.

Hansen couldn’t miss, shooting 6-7 from the field on the night.

Werkman also was efficient, shooting 53% from the field, and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Canby’s Michael Tol was the only player to grab more, with eight.

Kolton Duis led both teams in scoring with 23 points on 54% from the field, but a lack of bench production killed the Lancers’ chances.

Tol and Evan Weber also finished in double figures for Canby with 11 and 10 points respectively.

Weber also dished out four dimes, making him the game’s second-leading passer behind RTR’s Aiden Wichmann, with five assists.

RTR grabbed seven steals as a team while Canby grabbed one.

Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (16-0) will go on the road to play Ortonville Monday at 7:30 p.m.

Canby (9-10) will look to get back above.500 when they face off against Tracy-Milroy-Balaton in Tracy Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

WWG 68, SWMC 55

WESTBROOK — The Westbrook-Walnut Grove boys basketball team won their 14th consecutive game Friday night behind Dan Kleven’s 20 points, defeating Southwest Minnesota Christian 68-55.

The Chargers had five players find the score sheet on the night, but it was enough to secure the win. Brady Ross scored another 12 for the Tigers and Kole Curry scored 10 points.

Westbrook-Walnut Grove (16-1) will host Martin County West in the fourth of seven straight home games for the Chargers on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

RRC 78, Adrian 69

ADRIAN — Ashton Holmen showed off his range, knocking down six 3-point shots to lead the Red Rock Central boys basketball team to a 78-69 road win over Adrian Friday night.

Holmen scored 20 points on the night, making him one of five scorers in double figures for the Falcons.

Isaac Simonson finished just behind him with an 18-point double-double. Simonson grabbed 14 rebounds, but perhaps most impressive were his five blocks on the defensive end.

Also posting a double-double on the night, Ashton Juhnke dished out 10 assists and scored another 13 points of his own.

Jayden Lang and Corey Arkell rounded out the RRC scorers with 11 and 10 points respectively.

Red Rock Central (7-11) will go on the road to play Edgerton Tuesday at 6 p.m.

DB 67, RCW 49

RENVILLE– The Dawson-Boyd Blackjacks boys’ basketball team defeated the Renville County West Jaguars 67-49 on Friday evening.

The Blackjacks jumped out to an early lead of 34-27 at halftime over the Jaguars and continued to cruise to an easy road victory.

Brayson Boike led the Blackjacks with a double-double of 18 points, 13 rebounds and six assists. Drew Hjelmeland had 16 points with six rebounds. Levi Olson had 14 points and three rebounds.

The Dawson-Boyd Blackjacks (15-3) will travel to Clara City to face off against MACCRAY on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

Marshall 78, St. Peter 66

ST. PETER — The Marshall Tigers boys’ basketball team defeated the St. Peter Saints 78-66 on Friday evening.

The Tigers used a balanced scoring attack led by Omar Abdi who had 20 points in the contest. Andrew Elton had 13 points and Tyler Maeyaert had 11 points in the victory.

The Tigers’ defense forced 14 turnovers in the game.

The Marshall Tigers will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they will host Sioux Falls Roosevelt High School at 1:30 p.m.

Wabasso 80, Cedar Mtn. 60

MORGAN — Tristan Larson dropped 26 points on the road against Cedar Mountain to lead the Wabasso boys basketball team to an 80-60 road win over Cedar Mountain Friday night.

Larson shot 8-10 from the field and grabbed 15 rebounds, including four on the offensive glass.

Noah Anderson dished out six assists while Calvin Hanna and Joe Liebl passed for another four.

Anderson was also the Rabbits’ second-leading scorer with 17 points on 6-11 shooting, including 5-9 from 3-point range.

After snapping its seven-game losing streak, Wabasso (4-13) will next face New Ulm Cathedral today at 2:30 p.m.
