PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Knights hang on against Dawson-Boyd

TYLER – The Russell-Tyler-Ruthton volleyball team defeated Dawson-Boyd 3-1 on Tuesday, winning by scores of 25-18, 21-25, 25-11 and 25-19.

Haley Muenchow led the way for the Knights with 14 kills while Kalleigh Carr added 10. Maddi Wendland led in digs with 16 while Allie Christianson added 10. Kinley Schreurs led in set assists with 34 while Madison Witte led in blocks with six.

Karoline Dahl led the way for Dawson-Boyd with 15 kills while Avery Bartunek added six and Mary Bothun had five. Lydia Aafedt led in set assists with 23 while Dahl and Bothun led in digs with 11 each.

Dawson-Boyd will face CMCS on Thursday at 7:15 p.m. while RTR will face Canby on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

Maddy Guetter led the way for the Rabbits with 23 kills while McKenna Nelson led in digs with 16 and Guetter and Megan Rothmeier added 12 and 10, respectively. Jenna Frank led in set assists with 30 while Cora Eichten led in blocks with 12.

Wabasso (15-4) will face Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

CLARA CITY – The Yellow Medicine East volleyball team defeated MACCRAY 3-1 on Tuesday, winning by scores of 25-18, 23-25, 25-23 and 25-20.

Meeghen Dahlager led the way for the Sting with 21 kills while Mackenzie Dyrdahl added 13 and Alli Steffen had eight. Madison Hinz led in set assists with 41 while Dahlager led in digs with 17. Hinz added 15 digs while Steffen had 14 and Dyrdahl chipped in 13.

YME will face KMS on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

Natalee Rolbiecki led the way for the Vikings with 19 kills while Lydia Sussner added 17 and Lizzy Gillingham had five. Abby Hennen led in digs with 11 while Rolbiecki added eight. Morgan Kockelman led in set assists with 37 while Sussner led in blocks with one.

Brooke Nelson led the way for the Lancers with eight kills while Cammie Weber added six. Abby Rangaard led in digs with 13 while Morgan Cleveland led in set assists with 14 while Rachel Harding added 11.

Canby will face RTR on Thursday at 7:15 p.m. while Minneota will face Renville County West on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

WESTBROOK – The Westbrook-Walnut Grove volleyball team defeated Edgerton 3-0 on Tuesday, winning by scores of 25-7, 27-25 and 25-8.

Alli Vande Kieft and Kelsey DeSmith led the way for the Chargers with seven kills each while Brittany Erickson added six. Grace Woelber led in set assists with 24 while Camryn Bunting and Halle Steen led in blocks with one each. Woelber also led in digs with seven while Emma Wahl and DeSmith each added six.

Woelber also reached a milestone in the match, surpassing 1,000 career digs in the win.

WWG (9-8) will face Heron Lake-Okabena next Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

Samantha Edwards led the way for the Panthers with 26 kills while Kylie Hensch added nine and Margaret Dolan had seven. Maddi Langerock led in set assists with 45 while Brooklyn Ludeman led in digs with 20. Cassidy Smith added 18 digs while Dolan had 14.

Alyssa Groves led the way for the Rebels with 20 kills while Elise Rohrer added 10. Laney Brown led in digs with 28 while Montana Beckmann added 20 and Brianna Schmitz had 15 and Courtney Schmitz chipped in 14. Brianna Schimtz led in set assists with 30 while Danielle Kuball added 19.

MCC will face Ellsworth on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

GRANITE FALLS – The Yellow Medicine East girls tennis team fell to MACA/WCA 4-3 on Tuesday.

At No. 1 singles, YME’s Whitney Tennis defeated MACA/WCA’s Lea Asmus 6-4, 6-3 while YME’s Emily Johnson defeated MACA/WCA’s Ryanne Long 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot. At No. 3 singles, MACA/WCA’s Katelyn Wehking defeated YME’s Chelsea Hoernemann 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 while YME’s Macie Sik defeated MACA/WCA’s Katie Messner 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 4 spot.

In doubles action, MACA/WCA’s Abbigail Athey and Greta Hentges defeated YME’s Cherish Hammer and Ashley Niemeyer 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 1 spot while MACA/WCA’s Lakia Manska and Hannah Wutzke defeated YME’s Emilee Speh and Allie Virnig 7-6, 6-4 at the No. 2 spot. At No. 3 doubles, MACA/WCA’s Ireland Winter and Kassidy Girard defeated YME’s Brynn Cherveny and Tiana Rupp 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 to round out the meet.

YME will hit the road next to square off against Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
