Heritage Hall Museum & Archives to present ‘From Russia to Dakota: The Amish, Hutterite, and Mennonite Journey’

The public is invited to join the Pipestone County Historical Society at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, at the Pipestone County Museum (113 S. Hiawatha Ave, Pipestone) for a presentation by Marnette Hofer and Tim Waltner of Heritage Hall Museum & Archive in Freeman, S.D.

Between 1873 and 1914, more than 250,000 Anabaptists relocated to the United States and western Canada. They became known as Germans from Russia to distinguish them from immigrants arriving directly from Germany. As descendants of Hutterites, the presenters have researched extensively and have a vast knowledge of the causes of this migration. Their presentation will help everyone to understand the reasons these groups chose the Great Plains as a new homeland and provide a deeper understanding of the shared history of their community and this region.

The cost to attend this presentation is $5 or $3 for members of the Pipestone County Historical Society. If you have questions, contact the Pipestone County Museum at (507) 825-2563 or by email at museum@pipestonecountymuseum.com.

Starting at $3.95/week.
