Marshall swim wins Big South championship
MONTGOMERTY — The Marshall swim and dive team ran away with the Big South Conference championship on Saturday, finishing with a team score of 557 to blow out St. Peter’s 385 and Tri-City United’s 268.
After breaking her own program record twice so far this year, Autumn Deutz continued to excel in the 1-meter dive with a score of 197.70 to place first. She also won the 50-yard freestyle at 26.13 while Grace Rokeh placed third at 28.32.
Finley Pelz earned a pair of individual conference titles, winning the 500-yard freestyle in 5:34.02 and the 100-yard butterfly in 1:04.22. Alex Brown and Hailey Larsen also placed second and third in the 500 free at 5:56.46 and 6:05.27, respectively, while Hybbert placed second in the butterfly at 1:16.17.
Larsen, Mauren Brusven and Amber Castor swept the podium in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:17.49, 2:21.31 and 2:22.10, respectively.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Tatum Lewis and Joleigh Kesteloot were the top two finishers at 1:10.32 and 1:13.51.
Hybbert’s 2:37.46 and Joleigh Kesteloot’s 2:41.10 gave them second and third place in the 200-yard individual medley.
Marshall’s 100-yard relay team of Lewis, Aaliyah Podratz, Pelz and Deutz won the 200-yard medley at 2:04.94 while Deutz, Hybbert, Podratz and Rokeh won the 400-yard freestyle relay at 4:13.62. The Tigers also earned a runner-up finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with Rokeh, Lewis, Hybbert and Pelz finishing at 1:52.56.
Podratz, Brown and Lydia Hastad placed second, third and fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke and Rokeh was the individual runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle.
Marshall next competes at the Section meet on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 5 p.m. in Willmar.
