PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Area teams wrap up at Jimmy John’s Classic

MARSHALL — Multiple area volleyball teams competed in the Jimmy John’s Classic tournament over the weekend.
MCC
MARSHALL — The Murray County Central volleyball team placed second in the White Division at the Jimmy John’s tournament over the weekend, defeating Renville County West 2-0 (25-19, 25-21) and Lakeview 2-0 (25-19, 25-15) and fell to Hutchinson 2-1 (11-25, 25-23, 11-15), Brandon-Evansville 2-1 (23-25, 25-10, 11-15) and Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg 2-1 (25-18, 22-25, 12-15).
Emily Rohrer led MCC with 62 total kills while Camdyn Kluis added 12 and Kate Slettum and Sophie Larson each had 11. Kiana Felber led in digs with 59 total while Kluis added 43 and Slettum led in set assists with 108 total.
MCC will face Westbrook-Walnut Grove on the road on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
RTR
MARSHALL — The Russell-Tyler-Ruthton volleyball team placed third in the Gold Division at the Jimmy John’s Classic tournament over the weekend, defeating Hills-Beaver Creek 2-0 (25-16, 25-12), Cedar Mountain 2-0 (25-10, 26-24), Adrian 2-0 (26-24, 25-17) and Central Minnesota Christian 2-0 (25-15, 25-17) and fell to St. Michael-Albertville 2-0 (10-25, 22-25).
Abby Carr led RTR with 47 total kills while Ella Hesse added 42. Lexi Schreurs led in digs with 39 total while Tatum Hess and Hesse each added 29 and Gabi Borresen had 23 and Borresen led in set assists with 91 total.
RTR will face Minneota on the road on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
WWG
MARSHALL — The Westbrook-Walnut Grove volleyball team placed fourth in the Brown Division at the Jimmy John’s Classic tournament over the weekend, defeating Red Rock Central 2-0 (26-24, 25-22) and Lakeview 2-1 (25-16, 22-25, 15-10) and fell to Cannon Falls 2-0 (8-25, 12-25), Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 2-0 (17-25, 17-25) and Cedar Mountain 2-0 (16-25, 24-26).
Kelsey DeSmith led WWG with 31 total kills while Natalie Wahl added 25 and Abby Wiggins had 21. Isabella Rentschler led in digs with 61 total while DeSmith added 47 and Macie Christians had 43 and Addeson Jenniges led in set assists with 60 total.
WWG (9-11) will face MCC at home on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
RRC
MARSHALL — The Red Rock Central volleyball team placed fifth in the Brown Division at the Jimmy John’s Classic tournament over the weekend, defeating Benson twice 2-0 (25-11, 25-7) and (25-9, 25-13) and Brandon-Evansville 2-0 (25-18, 26-24) and fell to Pipestone Area 2-1 (25-27, 25-21, 15-17) and WWG 2-0 (24-26, 22-25).
Karli Arkell led RRC with 48 total kills while Josie Horning added 16 and Sondra Rindfleisch had 14. Arkell also led in digs with 45 total while Ella Erickson added 38 and Horning had 34. Emily DeCock led in set assists with 44 total while Nora Hemmingsen added 37.
RRC (13-5) will face Adrian at home on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
Lakeview
MARSHALL — The Lakeview volleyball team went 1-4 in the White Division at the Jimmy John’s Classic tournament over the weekend, defeating MCW 2-0 (25-20, 25-12) and fell to Cannon Falls 2-0 (1-25, 14-25), WWG 2-1 (16-25, 25-22, 10-15), HBC 2-1 (23-25, 26-24, 11-15) and MCC 2-0 (19-25, 14-25).
No stats were available at press time.
Lakeview will face Canby at home on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

BROOKINGS, S.D. — The No. 1-ranked Marshall volleyball team defeated Brookings (S.D.) 3-0 (25-12, 25-9, 25-13) on Saturday.
Tessa Gannott led Marshall with 15 kills while Leah Jones added 10 and Taylor Ariasola had eight. Caitlyn Christenson led in digs with 21 while Ashleigh Steinbach added 11 and Maysa Gillingham had 10 and Gillingham led in set assists with 32.
Marshall (17-2) will face Pipestone Area on the road on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

Glacial Lakes Invite
WILLMAR — The Marshall girls cross country team competed in the Glacial Lakes Invite on Saturday, placing third with a team score of 77. Hopkins took first with a score of 69 while Willmar took second with a score of 72.
Allyson Sample took ninth with a time of 19:58.1 while Miracle Tucker took 12th with a time of 20:20.1, Taleigha Bigler took 15th with a time of 20:36.6, Katelyn Leibfried took 17th with a time of 20:51.2, Brooklyn Mauch took 24th with a time of 21:31.2, Anna DeGroot took 36th with a time of 22:06.3, Gracelyn Foster took 38th with a time of 22:21.8, Avery Schneekloth took 45th with a time of 22:41.1 and Cameen McFarquhar took 46th with a time of 22:41.7 to round out their times.
Marshall will compete next Saturday at Alexandria at 10 a.m.

TMB 41, Wabasso 6
WABASSO — The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton football team defeated Wabasso 41-6 on Saturday.
Ayden Horner led TMB with 307 rushing yards on 20 carries and three touchdowns while Mekhi Moua added 53 yards on the ground on four carries and Caden Anderson had 50 rushing yards on nine carries and a score. Noah Swenhaugen completed 10 of his 15 pass attempts for 200 yards and a touchdown while adding 38 rushing yards and Christian Wendland led in receiving with 97 yards on four catches and a touchdown while Jake Turner added 61 yards on three receptions.
Defensively, Alex Schuh led TMB with 4.5 total tackles.
Adryen Tietz completed 12 of his 22 pass attempts for 105 yards and a touchdown for Wabasso while Jayden Goblish led in rushing with 11 yards on two carries and Sam Fenger led in receiving with 77 yards on three catches and a touchdown.
Defensively, Tietz led Wabasso with 8.5 total tackles.
TMB (3-2) will face St. James at home next Friday at 7 p.m. while Wabasso (0-5) will face Adrian on the road next Friday at 7 p.m.
Friday football
Lakeview 28, DB 22
DAWSON — The Lakeview football team defeated No. 4 Dawson-Boyd 28-22 on Friday.
With 14 seconds left and the score tied 22-22, Lakeview found the end zone on a four-yard run by Clayton Kosel. The two-point conversion attempt was no good, but Lakeview was able to hang on for the victory.
Kosel led Lakeview with 144 rushing yards on 25 carries and three touchdowns while Greg Schafer added 52 yards on the ground on eight carries. Owen Louwagie completed eight of his 20 pass attempts for 115 yards while adding 11 yards rushing on four carries and a score. Justin Timm led in receiving with a 45-yard reception while Nathan Fenske added three catches for 30 yards.
Holt Larson led DB with 236 rushing yards on 26 carries and a touchdown while Brayden Hahn completed four of his 13 pass attempts for 54 yards. Caleb Torke led in receiving with two catches for 31 yards while Braxton Hahn added two catches for 23 yards.
Lakeview (4-1) will face Yellow Medicine East at home next Friday at 7 p.m. while DB (4-1) will face Russell-Tyler-Ruthton on the road next Friday at 7 p.m.
