Wing, Wendorff aid Tigers in BSC divisonal win
BIG SOUTH BOYS
MARSHALL — Deacon Wing and Ethan Wendorff’s top-3 finishes helped the Marshall boys protect their home course in a Big South Conference golf division event on Monday. The Tigers had four golfers in the top five of the 42-player field to beat out runner-up St. Peter by six strokes.
The Tigers finished with a team-score of 313 to top the seven-team field, beating out St. Peter’s 319 and New Ulm’s 333.
Wing was the top individual in the field, shooting an even-par 72 to edge out St. Peter’s Owen Matejcek by three strokes. He finished even par on both the front and back 9, logging one birdie with seven pars on the front and three birdies with three pars on the back.
Wendorff also placed third in the event with a 5-over 77. He was particularly strong on the front 9, birdying holes 1 and 2 to finish it even, and added another birdie on the back 9.
Elijah Winn tied St. Peter’s Isaiah Homrighausen for fifth place with an 80, highlighted by one birdie on the front and back 9, and Keegan Fossum rounded out the Tigers’ scorers in a tie with New Ulm’s Mason Buegler for 12th place at 12-over 84.
While not scoring for the Tigers, Jaylen Koster and Carter Manthei also put together strong rounds. Koster tied for 14th with an 85 and Menthei tied for 16th with an 86.
The Tigers next head to St. Cloud Country Club for the St. Cloud Invitational on Thursday at 1:45 p.m.
BIG SOUTH GIRLS
WORTHINGTON — Dayton Webskowski ran away with an individual first-place finish at a Big South division meet at Great Life Golf & Fitness on Monday, leading the Marshall girls golf team to a tie as runners-up in the event.
Webskowski shot a 9-over 80 for the round, including a hole-12 birdie and seven pars to beat the next closest finisher by seven strokes.
As a team, the Tigers tallied a score of 410 to tie New Ulm for second. St. Peter won the event with a 402.
Maddi Panka was the Tigers’ No. 2 scorer on the day in a tie for 11th with a 32-over 103 behind four pars.
Emry and Ava Weller rounded out the Tiger scorers in the event. Emry shot a 112 to place 23rd and Ava shot a 115 to place 25th.
After Webskowski, New Ulm’s Lillian Kral was the individual runner-up with a 16-over 87 and Worthington’s Claire Meyer rounded out the podium with a 92.
Isabella Gossen and Kathryn Gordon also competed for Marshall, Gossen placing 32nd with a 122 and Gordon 35th with a 126.
Marshall’s girls golf team next competes in the St. Cloud Invite at St. Cloud Country Club on Thursday at 9 a.m.
CAMDEN SOUTH GIRLS
CANBY — The Lakeview girls golf team had three top-5 finishers to lead the team to a first-place finish at the Camden South Conference meet on Monday. Canby’s Maddison Richter won the meet overall with a first-place finish.
The Lakers finished with a score of 191 to win the invite, with Canby following in second place with a 205. Minneota finished in third with a 226, while Tracy-Milroy-Balaton didn’t have enough qualifying players to field a full team for the event.
Nora Forslund and Lauren Boe tied for second place to lead the Lakers, both carding a 10-over 46. Richter finished two strokes under to take first with an 8-over 44.
Allison Isaacs and Jayla Post followed close behind for Lakeview in fifth and sixth, respectively. Isaacs shot a 13-over 49, and Post finished with a 14-over 50. Nicole Schwartz rounded out the Lakers in 15th with a 22-over 58.
Following Richter, Gracie Mamer finished in seventh individually with a 53, while Jayda Namken and Karli Weber tied for ninth with a 55.
The Vikings were led by Ava Panka’s ninth-place finish with a 55, and Brynn Rost followed with a 56 for 12th place.
The teams will meet again on Thursday at the Tracy Country Club to compete in another Camden South Conference meet, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
CAMDEN SOUTH BOYS
CANBY — Owen Dalager had a big performance and finished with an even par to win the Camden South Conference meet and lead the Minneota boys golf team to a first-place finish on Monday.
Dalager carded an even 36, including a birdie on the fourth hole, and was four strokes ahead of Canby’s Lane Citrowske’s runner-up finish of a 6-over 42.
Minneota as a team won the meet with a 170, and Lakeview came in second with a 179. Canby placed third with a 181, while Yellow Medicine East and Tracy-Milroy-Balaton followed in fourth and fifth, respectively.
Jase Sorensen supported Dalager toward the top of the leaderboard, and carded a 7-over 43 to finish in fifth. Easton Sheik followed close behind tied for seventh with Canby’s Daven Vanengen and a 9-over 45, while Blayze Hulzebos tied for ninth with TMB’s Trenton Johnson and Landon Teske with a score of 10-over 46.
Ledgen Javens led the Lakers in second place, as he, Citrowske and YME’s Cooper McCosh all tied with a 6-over 42. McCosh and Javens also each had one birdie on the day.
Lakeview’s Gavin Gregoire also tied with Sorensen for fifth place.
Randy Sorensen and Berkley Sheik each helped the Vikings as well, finishing in 21st and 22nd place, respectively.
The teams will meet again on Thursday at the Tracy Country Club to compete in another Camden South Conference meet, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
