MCC 16, RRC/WWG 1 (5 inn.)

SLAYTON — Dugan Kluis exploded for a pair of two-run homeruns and six RBIs all while going a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate to highlight Murray County Central’s 16-1 mercy-rule win over Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove Monday night, continuing the Rebels’ undefeated streak.

Kluis’ homers came in the second and fourth innings, both of which also scored Tristan Behrends.

The Rebels got off to a fast start with three runs in the first, second and fourth innings, and rallied for a seven-run third inning.

Kluis’ first homerun in the second inning came on two outs and gave the Rebels a 6-0 edge. He sent the ball past the left field fence, scoring Behrends. Behrends initially hit a ground ball and reached on a Falcons’ fielding error.

MCC’s Gabe Tentinger first scored in the inning prior to Kluis’ hit on a balk by RRC/WWG, after reaching base on a double to left field and moved to third on a passed ball.

The Rebels continued to chip away, and Kluis stepped up big again and hit his second homerun in the fourth for a 16-0 lead.

Much like the first, Behrends got on base with a double to left field, and took home with Kluis’ homer.

MCC’s offensive depth shined once again, with several players connecting for big-time hits.

Carson Lewis also had a perfect night, going 3 for 3 at the plate along with an RBI. Behrends had a team-high four runs along with a 2 for 3 outing with an RBI.

Teague Meyer also had a strong performance on both ends of the field. He went 2 for 4 at the plate along with a trio of runs and an RBI. Meyer also was the game’s winning pitcher, holding the Falcons’ offense quiet with five strikeouts while allowing just two hits and one walk.

RRC/WWG scored its run in the top of the fifth, with Carter Therkilsen scoring off a Jackson Jenniges line drive, reaching base on an MCC error. Therkilsen first reached base on a single line drive to left field.

Overall, the Rebels outhit the Falcons 13-2 with MCC finished with one error to RRC/WWG’s four.

MCC (11-0) will next embark on a three-game roadtrip, starting on Thursday at Pipestone with a 4:30 p.m. first pitch.

RRC/WWG will next host MLAC on Thursday, also at 4:30 p.m.

Minneota 2, YME 1

GRANITE FALLS — The Minneota baseball team won its sixth-straight game after defeating Yellow Medicine East 2-1 Monday night. Ian Myhre had a pair of doubles and went 2 for 4 at the plate to lead the Vikings’ offense.

In the competitive, low-hitting matchup, Minneota scored its two runs with one coming in each the first and fourth innings. The Sting scored their lone run in the bottom of the sixth. Minneota overall finished the night with four hits and one error to YME’s two hits and one error.

Myhre scored the Vikings’ first run of the night in their first plate appearance in the top of the first inning. He scored on a wild pitch from third base, and initially reached base on a double fly ball to right field and advanced to third with a Kaden Christensen single to center field.

Following another two scoreless innings, the Vikings brought in one more run in the fourth inning from Creed Stassen.

Stassen singled on a line drive to center for a base hit, and advanced to second on a Landon Esping walk. Logan Pohlen hit a sacrifice fly to move Stassen one more base, and Stassen scored during the next at-bat when Eli Faris grounded-out.

YME was able to bring the score back within a run in the sixth inning after Hayden Kuehn scored on a Gavin Torvik hit. Kuehn initially reached base with an infield ground ball.

But, Minneota was able to hold the Sting off in their final at-bat with a fielder’s choice, a strikeout and ground-out to hang on for the win.

For Minneota, Stassen pitched a majority of the night through the first six innings and finished with four strikeouts while allowing two hits and one walk. Carson Javers came in for the save for the seventh inning, tossing one strikeout with one walk and no hits.

Lane Wohlman spent the first four innings on the mound for YME, retiring five batters while allowing three hits and one walk. Torvik tossed the last three innings and finished with two strikeouts, one hit and a pair of walks.

YME (6-5) will look to get back on track when it hosts Dawson-Boyd on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Minneota (5-4) will aim to keep its momentum going when it returns home to host MACCRAY at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
