SMSU GOLF: SMSU ready to host EverSpring Inn & Suites Mustang Invite this weekend
MARSHALL – The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s golf team will host the 23rd annual EverSpring Inn & Suites Mustang Invitational this Saturday and Sunday at the 5,969-yard, par 72 Marshall Golf Club. The 36-hole invite begins with a shotgun start on Saturday at 1 p.m. and will conclude with the final round on Sunday beginning with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.
Nearly 70 individuals are expected to compete from 10 teams including Southwest Minnesota State, Augustana, Bemidji State, Chadron State, Concordia-St. Paul, Gustavus, Minnesota State, Minnesota Crookston, MSU Moorhead, and Wayne State.
Augustana won the 2019 invitational with a score of 608 (+32). Alex Stone from Augustana captured the individual title with an even-par 144.
SMSU, which finished eighth out of 12 teams at the 2019 invite, has won the team title twice (2000 & 2005) during the 22-year history of the invitational.
This weekend will be the third competition for SMSU this fall. The Mustangs competed this past Monday and Tuesday at the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bear Classic, finishing eighth with a two-round score of 684. Junior Sally Gallagher tied for 16th to lead SMSU with an 18-over 162 (80-82).
Following this weekend, SMSU face Minnesota State in a two-day dual match on Oct. 3-4 in Marshall and Mankato.
