YOUTH GIRLS HOCKEY ROUNDUP: Marshall 10U takes second, 12U third in weekend tournaments

MARSHALL — The Marshall 10U and 12U girls hockey teams competed in the Willmar Cardinal Classic tournament over the weekend, with the 10U team placing second and the 12U team taking third.

10U

Marshall 10U girls came away with a second place finish at the Willmar Cardinal Classic Tournament. The girls also experienced their first loss of the season on Friday night against Hutchinson 3-1, with Brooklyn Mauch scoring the lone goal of the night.

On Saturday the girls played Eden Prairie and won 11-0. Brianna Foley had a hat trick while Brooklyn Mauch with two goals and Peyton DeMuth, Lucie Pearson, Nora Holmgren, Avery Kesteloot, Elsie Deutz and Brielle Felton-Krog all had a goal. Assists came from Brielle, Elsie, Nora, Emerson Demuth and Peyton. The second game of the day was against Princeton/Becker/Big Lake and ended in a 4-0 win. Riley Anderson had a goal with assist from Elsie Deutz, Brooklyn Mauch on an unassisted goal and Brooklyn on an assist from Grace Devries and a final unassisted goal came from Peyton Demuth.

On Sunday the girls played for the championship against Hutchinson and the score was tied 0-0 until the third period when Hutchinson scored the only goal of the game to end it 1-0. Lily Stelter was in the net for all four games and came away with two shutouts.

Marshall 10U will be back in action next Sunday against New Ulm.

12U

Marshall 12U girls headed North to take part in the Willmar Classic Tournament. They started out Friday night by playing Princeton/Becker Big Lake, coming out with a 6-0 win. They continued their winning streak Saturday afternoon against the Tartans winning 4-1. That night they took on Willmar, falling 5-0 which led them to play for third place Sunday morning against Buffalo where they won 3-1.

Scoring for the weekend for Marshall were Mady Girard, Aubree Metheny, Piper Mellenthin, Kendal Beernart, Olivia DeGroot, Abi Guggisberg, Mia Wichmann (4) and Aubrey Schaefer (3). Assists for the weekend were Jenae Davis, Piper Mellenthin, Abbey Foley, Aubree Metheny, Abi Guggisberg, Mia Wichmann and Emma Kolander (2).

Belle Deutz was in net for the weekend with total of 82 saves.
