Downtown Third Street doesn’t need changes

To the editor: Jim Muchlinski’s article, “Rural downtowns should remain safe and walkable”, (6/11/2) expressed the thoughts of many as to what is best for the citizens of Marshall. Having had an optometric office on Third Street for 48 years, I can attest to the benefits of a Third Street location and also to the benefits of the current pedestrian safety features that are in place. It has been expressed at the Downtown Business meetings that a one-way section on Third Street, with diagonal parking would add four more parking spaces. To the editor: Trudy Madetzke’s latest pearl-clutching lamentation to the editor on June 22 takes aim at Marshall’s mayor for — I kid you not — welcoming people at the city’s recent Pride event. In the arrogant and self-righteous manner that has become her signature style on this page, through the guise of a vague reference to “a higher Law,” Madetzke regards a particular interpretation of Christianity as applicable to everyone. To the editor: Setting aside the debate on the legitimacy of the 2020 election, the result is the reality we are now living in. The pain of high energy prices, food prices, inflation, supply chain crisis, high crime rates, falling stock market that is destroying future retirement funds for people and on and on. Surprised by mayor welcoming of LGBTO support group

To the editor: In the 70s, my husband began serving as a Marshall police officer. Once he made his presence known to a couple in the backseat of a car who were engaged in “making out”. The teenage boy said, “There’s no law against this.” My husband replied, “There is a higher Law.” The couple got themselves rearranged and back into the front seat and drove away. To the editor: Our U.S. Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach has written, “The United States Constitution is unambiguous: our right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Period.” The final interpreter of the Constitution is the Supreme Court, not Michelle Fischbach. Legislature needs to finish important work

To the editor: The recently concluded legislative session left a number of important issues unresolved, many of which are important to cities and our residents here in Southwestern Minnesota. Specifically, the agreed-upon final versions of the Tax bill and the Jobs and Energy bill are much-needed items that will offer opportunities and to our residents and our communities.
