Maybe Sen. Klobuchar can convince Democrats to address nursing home crisis

To the Editor: Recently, Sen. Amy Klobuchar visited the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm and told reporters that she wants to do something to help nursing homes in this state. To that news, I have a simple response: thank you. More than 1.3 million Minnesotans are aged 65 or older, and as they age, their need for care grows. Unfortunately, the State of Minnesota is not keeping up with these needs. In the month of October, 11,000 people were turned away from nursing homes, mainly due to lack of staff. Trying to make sense of thrift store changes

To the editor: Thank you to the hundreds of volunteers who have given of their time and talents to create the Avera Thrift Store over the years. You have done a fabulous job and provided affordable items and clothing to the Marshall and surrounding areas. Unfortunately, on Tuesday, March 28, these amazing volunteers were informed they will no longer be needed. According to information provided by Avera Leadership they will be hiring staff to run the Thrift Store. To the editor: Columnist Steve Browne raised many questions in his opinion article, “Tennessee outlaws drag shows.” (March 21) He stated, “My oh my what an issue to divide the country over.”, making the point “a drag queen story hour at your local library was not something to make a fuss over compared to a possible European nuclear war or inflation.” Browne suggested the real issue “appears to be about whether we should have such a category as ‘adult entertainment.’ ” He did not agree with those who claim drag queen entertainment is a totally innocent form of ...

Pride in the Tiger helps with books

Thank you to the Pride in the Tiger Foundation for the grant to purchase books for the students in Mrs. Miller’s 5th grade class at the Marshall Middle School. Books ranged from the annual Maud Hart books to new release Diary of a Whimpy kid. We also received classroom versions the books Save a Seat and Unplugged so that we can read them together!
