What’s the real problem?

To the Editor: “Nothing is more common than for a free people, in times of heat and violence, to gratify momentary passions, by letting into the government principles and precedents which afterwards prove fatal to themselves,” - Alexander Hamilton, 1784. City slow to take action on thistles, weeds

To the editor: Howw long does it take for the city of Marshall to take some action against thistles and weeds 4 feet high and branches all over? Why can’t they do something before they all go to seed and end up in my yard? This is unacceptable. Shirley Powelson Marshall

To the editor: “See something. Say something.” We are encouraged to do so when a crime has been committed and the perpetrator’s whereabouts are unknown. What can be done if words of violence toward others are heard or if the person speaking is suicidal? The school shooting in Minneapolis, and other school shootings often involve the shooter sharing his plans with others beforehand. While a person cannot be arrested before a crime is committed, if you “Hear violent plans. Report violent plans.” A police officer does have the authority to have a mentally disturbed ...

Making America backwards again

To the editor: In the last 85 years the United States has encouraged science education and has attracted the best minds in the world, allowing Americans to harness nuclear energy, go to the moon, invent the internet, develop the polio and other vaccines, and produce many more breakthroughs. Americans have received about 40% of the Nobel prizes. Immigrants to America have played a large part in our success. Trump stirring the pot

To the editor: (President Trump) is again stirring the proverbial pot to deflect from his lack of transparency about anything he’s done for the past thirty years. This time, he has apparently given the OK to an inept Robert Kennedy to pull back the funding for vaccine research. All while there comes an unending stream of television commercials apparently nationwide, to encourage parents to get their children vaccinated before beginning any sort of pre-school or kindergarten in order to avoid ever spreading cases of measles and other diseases which were thought to be eradicated. ...

Convicted felon Trump is no war hero

To the editor: Breaking news: Trump has declared himself a war hero. The guy that received six deferments, one of which was for bone spurs to get out of the draft. The war hero is sending in the national guard to the District of Columbia because of all the crime, but he didn’t do a thing on Jan. 6, what he did was watch on TV while 1,600 violent criminals attacked the capital and put 200 capital police in the hospital. Then after all that war hero stuff, he pardoned those criminals, no wonder there is a lot of crime. We have 1,600 more violent criminals on the street. Washington ...
