Habitat for Humanity ReStore to close

Photo by Deb Gau Habitat for Humanity of Redwood River announced this week that the ReStore, a nonprofit building and home store on East College Drive in Marshall, will be closing this spring.

MARSHALL — It’s served as a source for building materials, furniture and other home items. But spokespeople for Habitat for Humanity of Redwood River said the ReStore in Marshall will be closing its doors this spring.

In a news release, the Habitat for Humanity of Redwood River board and Executive Director Tami Dorenkamper said the decision to close the ReStore was a difficult one to make. However, the ReStore was no longer providing as much financial support for Habitat for Humanity.

“Over the past several years, we’ve seen an increase in places for people to take their donations, and thus the viability of the ReStore and the financial support for the Habitat mission has diminished,” the news release stated.

The ReStore, a nonprofit home improvement store and donation center, accepted donations and sold new and gently used items like furniture, appliances and building materials. The ReStore started out operating from a location on north U.S. Highway 59 in Marshall. In 2023, the ReStore moved to East College Drive, renovating a former auto body shop into a store and donation center.

In the news release, Habitat for Humanity of Redwood River said its organization was still going, and was still dedicated to building homes in southwest Minnesota for families in need.

“Thank you for the tremendous support we’ve felt for our ReStore over these years, from our five-county area,” the news release stated.

Habitat for Humanity of Redwood River said it will be working to liquidate the ReStore. A store closing sale will run from April 27 to May 1, and from May 11-15. All items will be sold on a “make an offer” basis, the news release said.

Starting at $3.95/week.
