MARSHALL — One of the newest developments on the Highway 19 reconstruction project in Marshall will be a good one for drivers. Main Street is set to re-open in Marshall’s downtown today, representatives of R and G Construction said.
Crews will start to remove some of the road closure signs at the intersection of Main Street and East College Drive at 6:30 a.m. today, said Erika Coudron of R and G. There will still be some turn lane closures at the intersection, while construction work continues on East College Drive. But traffic will be able to move down Main Street.
Drivers should also be careful to look out for workers who are moving signs or completing electrical work at the Main/College Drive intersection, Coudron said.
The intersection is re-opening roughly six weeks from when it was first closed off.
The intersection of Bruce Street and East College Drive remains closed to traffic, as construction continues. Crews have completed storm sewer installation in the installation, but they are still working on water main installation, Coudron said. Grading work at the intersection has been completed, and concrete paving is tentatively scheduled to start next week.
The intersection of Lyon Street and College Drive downtown will remain open, as a way for local traffic to cross College Drive, Coudron said.
In a construction update Thursday, Coudron said crews were continuing to make progress on College Drive between main Street and Liberty Park. Concrete paving work is finished in the Redwood Street intersection, and landscaping work is scheduled to begin at the end of this week.
Further down East College Drive, crews have torn out the pavement between High Street and Hill Street. Installation of new sanitary sewer lines is now underway at the Whitney Street/College Drive intersection, Coudron said. Sewer work and installation of new water mains are planned to continue next week.
Coudron said R and G has been getting questions about when construction work would stop for the 4th of July holiday weekend. She said road work will continue Monday through Thursday of next week, and then resume on Monday, July 6.
