Vigil for victim

BCA continues investigation into domestic disturbance resulting in two deaths

A crowd of people could be seen gathering on Brussels Court Tuesday evening, as a candlelight vigil was held for a Marshall woman stabbed Sunday. She was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital, and later died of her injuries, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said.

MARSHALL —  Dozens of people holding candles gathered outside a home on Brussels Court Tuesday in a vigil for a woman who died as a result of injuries from a stabbing early Sunday morning.

The incident, in which a male suspect was also shot and killed, is still under investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

A public information officer with the BCA said they did not have any further information to release on Tuesday. Agents were still completing their preliminary investigation, the BCA said. More information might be released this week, the information officer said.

Marshall Police were called to the scene of a domestic disturbance on the 500 block of Brussels Court in the early hours of Sunday morning. A news release from the MPD said when police arrived at the scene, a male was stabbing a woman. While details of the incident have not been released, police said an officer made contact with the male, and shots were fired. The male died at the scene.

The woman was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital, and later died, the BCA confirmed.

Marshall Police asked the BCA to investigate the incident. The agency’s Force Investigations Unit conducts independent investigations when police officers use deadly force.

The BCA has not yet released the names of anyone involved in the incident. However, on Monday, Minneapolis resident Kent Martell told the Independent that his niece, Meredith Martell, died Sunday.
