Veterans Day programs coming this week

MARSHALL — Later this week, members of the public will take time to honor U.S. military veterans at a variety of programs in area communities.

This year, Veterans Day will be observed on Friday, but some events will also be held on other days. In Marshall, the annual Veterans Day program will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at the Marshall Adult Community Center, said Bruce Fuhrmann of the Marshall American Legion.

The keynote speaker at Saturday’s program will be Heidi Fier, Veteran Service Officer for Lyon County, Fuhrmann said.

Friday will also be the day that the first of four screenings of “The War To End All Wars — The Movie” will be held at the Lyon County Museum in Marshall. The Lyon County Museum is among the museums around the world showing the film as part of the “History Rocks” project. The Swedish metal band Sabaton created the movie in partnership with Yarnhub, an animation studio focused on historical content.

“The War To End All Wars — The Movie” tells stories from World War I, featuring music by Sabaton. The movie is 67 minutes long, and will have screenings at the museum at 7 p.m. on Nov. 10, 11, 17, and 18. There is limited seating, and viewers must register in advance by filling out a form available on the Lyon County Museum’s website, www.lyoncomuseum.org, and on the museum’s Facebook page. A free-will donation will be accepted.
